i’ve got to share the unintentional hilarity of my wife just now.
we just got finished watching Project Runway (shut the hell up. we like the drama, okay? get off my back.)
so she asks me if i’ve seen the new SafeAuto commercial.
i don’t think i have. so what’s it about? well she tells me it’s got Guido in it.
the only Guido i know of is from Jersey Shore and i know she has no clue what that is so i don’t even acknowledge this as a possibility (if you’re married, you understand).
so i’m like “Guido”? and she’ like “Yeah, Guido from MMA.”
so i’m all “Guido from MMA”?
and she says “you know, Guido. that jumps around.” and while she says this she moves her fists back and forth like a rock ’em sock ’em robot.
all of a sudden it hits me and i start laughing my head off. i ask her if she means Clay Guida? she says “yeah. his name’s not Guido”?
absolute hilarity. can’t stop laughing.

You guys seeing these FB prelims right now? Neer vs Wisniewski has more stand-up elbows than I’ve ever seen in an MMA fight. Neer has a broken rib, Wis’s face is cut to shreds but they’re still going at each other like madmen.

Yeah, they were okay. All of the fights were pretty good, but the Danzig/Wiman fight stood out to me. The title fight – damn that Johnson is impressive, but he just didn’t have an answer for Cruz’s takedowns. I think that’s where it’s frustrating sometimes, when you see a contender that really has tools that could defeat the champion, but there’s an area of his game that’s not as well developed that the champion takes advantage of.
Aldo/Florian and Edgar/Maynard on the same card is insane. Then we get Sonnen/Stann and Guillard/Lauzon and the rematch of Garcia and Nam Phan on the same night? Ludicrous!!!
This could easily be the card of the year.

Chael Sonnen just called out Silva and “upped” the stakes WWE style. That was hilarious.

The whole main card was as astoundingly fun as I hoped for. Maybe it would have been nicer if Stann had been able to put up more of a fight but on the other hand Chael’s mastery was thrilling and seeing Joe Lauzon put the prancing Melvin Guillard in his place in under 60 seconds was outstandingly entertaining. I don’t even mind flashy guys like Melvin – in fact I’d say I’m a fan – but it is always awesome drama to see someone cockily flamboyant like that get humbled and he was actually a super good sport in defeat.
I thought Aldo was amazing too – just so mentally tough even when Kenny had him on the back foot early – and I’m stoked Frankie got the finish to square up the trilogy between he and Maynard. If Frankie keeps defending I wouldn’t mind seeing those two guys go for the rubber match in a year or 18 months after Gray grabs another two or three wins. Like Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia they seem destined to put on great matches together.
And how about Jose Aldo’s awesome Toshiro Mifune Seven Samurai walkout shirt. I don’t typically buy MMA branded gear because most of it is just a mess design-wise but this is the most I’ve ever been tempted. Fucking love that kid.

I too enjoyed the fights. I have to say, as soon as I saw that shirt, I knew it was destined to be mine. Think it shipped yesterday!!

and it’s kind of funny, last week i started getting the itch to watch some Kurosawa movies. now it’s definitely going to happen.
