ParticipantDid you see/hear the Nate interview with Ariel Robbie? Knowing you’re a fan of Ariel and your complicated feelings toward the Diaz brothers I would have loved to see your reaction to that.

ParticipantSorry, hadn’t seen this.
Yeah, Nate is a surprising guy. You don’t really expect intelligent words to come out of someone who typically sounds like a thug. I enjoyed the interview a lot more than I thought I would, and it’s interesting to hear his point of view on the whole thing.

ParticipantI find both Diaz brothers oddly endearing. That line of Conor’s about how they make gang signs with one hand while making balloon animals with the other, alluding to the fact they do great things for their community (while attempting to insult him at the same time) is bang on. Also, so many stories from fans about how they’re friendly and generous with their time.

ParticipantWell, you might or might not remember – but I went to the weigh-ins for UFC 171, and Nick was there and you’re right – dude took lots of pictures with fans, and the UFC Twitter account actually tweeted a photo of Nick, and I’m in the photo.
“@ufc: Look who we found in the crowd at #UFC171 weigh-in! @nickdiaz209 pic.twitter.com/2zKv1itJRH” Holy crap, that's me on the left w/wide eyes

Funny thing was, three days later, I was in the hospital.
Anyway, I’ve always been entertained by them, but wouldn’t call myself a fan, per se. I’m interested to see how this is all going to play out.

ParticipantPost-fight presser for 199 was almost as fun as the main event itself. Actually the whole damn event was epic as heck.
Crazy drama with Ariel though. Can’t wait for the MMA hour.

I can’t believe Nick got to be in the same room as you. So lucky.

ParticipantIt was an absolutely amazing card. Such a great night, all the way up until I heard about Ariel. It almost ruined everything, and I’ve been doing very little but consuming different articles and reading Twitter and all that, talking about the whole thing. MMA Hour was pretty great, and eye-opening.
What do you think about Mark Hunt going up against Brock in UFC 200? That’s pretty awesome for Mark.

ParticipantI only just downloaded the MMA Hour, haven’t listened yet, although I did read the article about the UFC re-instating MMA Fighting’s credentials.
It’s aces for Mark for sure, not the highest-stakes fight of his career but will have the most eyeballs on it. Very much an old school groundfighter vs striker match too, good for celebrating both the new and old UFC.

ParticipantYou were right of course Robby, that was one riveting as heck ep of MMA Hour. Even above what wasn’t said there was the “I don’t want to say any more than this but … it got physical” regarding a different incident. That poor bastard has been through some real deal shit to do his dream job.

ParticipantI’ve been watching Ariel about as much as I’ve watched MMA. I watch the MMA hour every week, along with the MMA Beat, and his post fight shows that come out a couple of hours after the events he attends are always worth a watch.
I say all that to reiterate that I know enough about him to know that he’s got scruples, and he always tells the truth. So all he said on the MMA Hour was pretty crazy stuff. I’ve also been watching his and Dana’s relationship over the years, and before Saturday, I felt like it’s sort of a big brother/little brother sort of thing. They play around on Twitter sometimes, especially when it comes to American Football. So I really think that Dana didn’t really want to do what he did on Saturday, but he answers to the Fertitta’s, so that’s where his ultimate loyalty lies.
Strange to me that any of it was done in the first place, if they were just going to turn around and reinstate all of their credentials three days later. Doesn’t seem like it was worth all the bad press – and I’d also think that there are too many folks at the UFC that could’ve stepped up and been like, “Um, this guy’s beloved and stuff – is this what we should be doing?”
It’s just a weird screw-up, sort of a rookie-type mistake.

ParticipantYep, it was a dumb move from the Dana and co (especially co, it seems) because they took some of the spotlight off their own massively successful event, not to mention their ploy took more shine off the Brock announcement than having it spilled an hour or two early.

ParticipantDid you happen to catch the MMA Hour a few weeks back when Ariel is interviewing Brendan Schaub and that Cullen guy and Joe Rogan pops in? I thought of the that interview when he was banned, thinking that the UFC probably didn’t appreciate that conversation about the possibility of them selling and what Joe might do if that happened.
June 11, 2016 at 9:19 pm #64328Bucho
ParticipantI did catch it, but i didn’t make that connection. I guess the UFC didn’t like any of that sale talk, but Ariel was hardly the one making waves on that issue, it was just something which came up in passing.

ParticipantHow about that MMA Hour line-up this week? Ariel straight-FLEXING his media power. I can’t help but feel he’s going to be stronger than ever after all that rigmarole the UFC put him through. It certainly can’t have hurt his profile.

ParticipantYeah, I actually ended up watching almost the whole thing. I was really interested in what Cruz had to say.
Only thing about shows like that though – I love the questions, so I missed that, but still, great show.
