ParticipantSome are saying she’ll never fight again, that she’ll just go to movies like Gina did, but I can’t imagine that’s how it turns out. For one, her being champion is a big part of what sells her as a movie star of any kind, because it sure as heck isn’t her thespian skills. For another, that girl just has too much fire in her to walk away and leave it like this.
I don’t see her beating Holly, but I think she gives it another crack. The only question is the whens and wheres and do either of them fight someone else first.

ParticipantCrazy times huh Robby.
Conor will bring a billion eyes to the sport and Aldo had a looooooooong reign so I can’t be mad at the FW result. Just was bummed it was only 13s.
I can be mad at the MW fight though. Happy to see the belt circulate and good for Luke but 185ers shouldn’t be gassing after one round. I mean, sure antibiotics, but … damn that was a sloppy slow fight for 185.

ParticipantYeah, that wasn’t the best fight, for either guy. Hope to see a rematch at some point where they’re both 100%.
Yeah, what can you say about Conor? That was just beautiful. I feel really bad for Jose, though, but it doesn’t change the fact that even if he retired today, he’d be considered one of the best of all time. On top of that, I just like the guy.
But yeah. A pretty great three day stretch!

ParticipantYeah, Aldo deserved longer, but he went all Brazilian and ran in way too hot. From how chill he was at the weigh-ins to how little regard he gave Conor’s ability to counter it seemed like he took Conor lightly. I remember in an interview after seeing how “2 Weeks” Mendes had handled Conor Aldo appeared to dismiss the idea that Conor had anything for him. That combined with his dislike of Conor was a deadly combination.
Meanwhile, Demian Maia may be getting old but him again showing what he can do to high level jiu jitsu opponents never gets old for me. Jake Shields is the only guy who’s really handled him at 170 and even that was a close split. Rory beat him of course, but that was that weird fight where Maia absolutely owned Rory for a round and then weirdly gassed, even after Rory had done nothing to him.
Also loved seeing Tony Ferguson do his thing again. That guy is never, ever, ever boring in a fight and he’s great in interviews too. Not Conor great obviously, but he’s kind of fearless and an odd dude in a way I like. Anyone who brings a different style to the game is good by me, and that guy is one of a kind in the cage.

ParticipantOh, ’tis true, Cruz is a super badass.

ParticipantNever a dull moment, right Robby?
In particular, check out the look on Dana’s face around 0:18 when he sees Conor is roaming free after Blue T-shirt Giant leaves him to take care of Nick.

ParticipantIt’s a fun fight, but I’m a little on the disappointed side because it doesn’t really mean anything to any of the weight classes. I’m not some huge stickler on those kinds of fights or anything, and it’s a far cry from the MMA travesty that was Kimbo vs Dada 5000, but I like it when there’s another level of drama, right?

ParticipantYep, I hear you. I’m good with the patch they were able to put over the hole at short notice though.
Really looking forward to finding out which version of Holly turns up too.

ParticipantOh yeah, it’s still a nice card, and I’m watching it regardless. I just like that additional level of stakes, too. We’ll see how it all goes down.

ParticipantYeah, I kinda feel for Nate with this stuff. Some could argue that he’s little more than a thug, but the guy does have feelings, and it’s got to sting to hear this shit from a guy that was barely heard of or anything just two years ago. And there’s the whole social awkwardness that comes with the brothers that they’re kinda known for. Honestly, I’d much rather hear Nick verbally spar with Conor, because Nick takes things to Mars and back.

ParticipantI’m with you, Nick is a fascinating dude once he gets flowing.

ParticipantKind of bummed for Holly – she just seems so NICE – but impossible to say Meisha doesn’t deserve it. She’s never going to be the athlete Holly and Ronda are, but she’s super tough, has massive heart and when she’s switched on is one of the smarter, more adaptable fighters around.
Meanwhile, gotta love Nathan Diaz. Just gotta. Comes in on short notice and out-thinks, out-hearts and out-fights the golden boy. Conor’s been amazing in defeat too. Even when he has his ass handed to him by a master of fist-chess he’s still a master of the verbal.

ParticipantRight on all counts. It was a really surprising night of fights. I will say though, I really dislike Meisha Tate, ever since TUF. She does probably have the best body in women’s MMA, though.
