ParticipantIf you still have it DVRed and have a spare 5 minutes – and you want it to make you that mad – try watching R2 again, in isolation this time, and see if you still think it was close enough to be either way. I’ve seen it three times and to me it’s not that close at all, especially in terms of octagon control and aggression being significantly in Masvidal’s favour. He really dominates cage position for the last 2 minutes of the round as Iaquinta seems to be dropping off. Add that to the one thing everyone seems to agree on – that Masvidal outstruck Iaquinta in every round – and the decision of two judges to award R2 to Al is really kind of baffling.

ParticipantYeah, I already deleted it. It’ll be a while before it’s available on Fight Pass, and by then, there’ll probably be ten other fights with bad decisions.

ParticipantSpeaking of sad but true, how about this Bones Jones malarkey. Thank the gods the woman wasn’t hurt worse I guess, but what an ugly freakin’ mess.

ParticipantYeah, seriously, what a fuckin’ idiot. It’s more upsetting to me than the Silva stuff just because at least Anderson is at the tail end of his career.

ParticipantI can’t remember if we ever talked about Dominic Cruz before but I 100% agreed with everything you said in your latest Solo episode. TUF really turned me round on him and then ever since, because of his analysis, I’ve liked him more and more.
Pretty much agreed with everything you said actually. If there’s one point I’d differ on it’s probably that I think, P4P at least, 145 is one of the deepest divisions, probably second only to LW, and then not by much. Obviously most of them have lost to Aldo or Conor, but I think that’s just because Aldo and Conor are extraordinary. If you could scale up guys like Mendes and Edgar they’d beat everyone at WW, MW and LHW, except maybe Jones, and I think a 205lb Frankie could maybe even beat Jones. His style is very similar to Gus’s, the style that put Jones in hospital, but Frankie’s more accurate and has better wrestling than Gus.
But then I rate Jones less highly than most. He’s still my favourite fighter to watch, but I feel like people really overrate his strength of schedule just because it’s so full of big names, and they ignore the context of the fights because their eyes are so googly at the celebrity level.

ParticipantI think I was talking more about the depth in the divisions. Sometimes the top guys are so far ahead of everyone else that the fights are almost predetermined. There are surprises from time to time (Dos Anjos), but for the most part, it’s pretty clear.

ParticipantDid you see this Rob? Ken-Flo talks facing Aldo and what he thinks Conor’s chances are. Fun.

ParticipantSo Jose’s out and Chad’s in. Still excited!

ParticipantStill a great match up, still a ton of heat and will answer the “But Conor hasn’t faced any wrestlers” crybabies.
Still can’t wait.

ParticipantI guess they decided it’s best to put another title fight on every Jose Aldo card from now on as some kind of backup. So who do they choose? Only the champion who has an even higher pull-out rate than Jose Aldo does. There’s no way both Aldo and Weidman make it to that event. Even Rockhold is/was something of a pull-out merchant.
And holy crap, how much has Ronda Rousey blown up since we last yapped? That girl gone mega, I assume due mostly to Furious 7. Set all kinds of records for a UFC fighter in both real and social media mentions.
Anyway, this is the channel Ariel was talking to Cerrone about. You might already know about it, but if you don’t and you want to waste 7 minutes here or there then it’s there for you, as reliable as your favourite Russian hovercraft manufacturer. I don’t even know what that means, but here’s one of them thar Cowboy vidyas.

ParticipantWeidman’s been unlucky with his injuries, but I honestly can’t wait for that fight. I hope they both make it, because that’s a hell of a card.
I’m really taking a lot of pride in Ronda’s success. I don’t have any good reason why, I’m just really proud of her. She is such a special person in so many ways. And I’m one of a few that don’t really think much about her looks, I just love to watch her fight. She’s got that certain something that really feels historic.
I haven’t watched the video yet. I listened to the Cerrone interview but I must have been spacing because I don’t remember this being brought up. I shall watch.

ParticipantThat was cool to see. I didn’t realize there was a video. I remember the story with my big beautiful brain, almost like it was yesterday. Okay, so two days ago. Whatever.

ParticipantVery well-done article about the Gracies. I’m sure you know most of it, but I feel like this is a new-ish spin and worth the read.

ParticipantRonda yaps it up with Rogan for a couple of hours. Pretty fun. Pretty adorable. Rogan even cries at one point.
