Honestly, when Cub had the mic at the end of his last fight and he said “I don’t beg for title fights” I slapped my head. Dana’s said over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over he’ll always lean toward the hungrier fighter. I mean, Dana can’t put it straight, the way you put it, Dana has to bullshit and pretend the mouthier fighter is more legit from a sporting point of view, but you’re right and Conor gets it.

Oh shit, just heard Hunto is in to fight Werdum for the interim HW belt because Cain got a boo-boo on his knee.

    Oh shit.

I’m scared Robby. I don’t want Jose to lose the belt.

    Hold me.

What a great fight. I really didn’t expect it to be that close. They both looked pretty great. I do like Jose, but I think he’s had too many close fights. Somebody’s gonna put it all together and beat him. And honestly, if they had said that Mendes won, I wouldn’t think it was weird – it was that close.

Can’t wait to see Anderson back. Didn’t realize how much I’d missed him.

Aldo is kind of a wrestler-killer who always looks worse against strikers – which is why Chad’s stand-up heavy gameplan was pretty smart – so Conor is going to give him fits.

And yes sir, it was great to see Anderson. He probably hasn’t got many fights left so we need to treasure that goofy bastard.

    1. Do you have Fight Pass?
    2. Did you watch Invicta 9 yesterday?
    3. Anything else you want to divulge?

    1. Still haven’t got it. They show all the Fight Night main cards on NZ TV anyway – even the ones that are Fight Pass only in the US – and I’ve found that lately I barely even have enough time to watch all the UFCs and Bellators that aren’t restricted. For example I still haven’t seen the undercard from 179 yet. Partially that’s because I’ve refallen a little in love with watching soccer football this season. MMA is still #1, but now I watch a couple of hours a week of Premier League a little bit of MMA has made way for it. I’ve also been watching more movies.
    2. No. I do miss watching Invicta but they kind of lost momentum this year so my fandom of them did too, which has meant them being on Fight Pass hasn’t been enough for me to get Fight Pass.
    3. I might need to find and relisten to your solo show where you talked about the Spike Jonze movie Her. I don’t seem to love it as much as the rest of The Earth and I can’t remember how you felt about it at the time.

    1. understandable. I just can’t get into watching that Football stuff. I watch quite a bit of the American Football, but mainly because April likes to watch it, too.

    2. I wanted to know if you’d seen Invicta because I was pretty underwhelmed by it and wanted to know if it was just me or what.

    3. I liked Her okay, I just thought it was weird. I don’t really remember much of what I said about it, so listening to the mini show again is probably advisable at this point.

    4. I want to see Interstellar so bad my fuckin tits hurt. I really want to see it in 70mm because that’s what Christopher Nolan wants me to see it in, but the closest theater is in Austin, and that’s like 3.5 hours away. Might as well be on Mars at this point.

    5.

    1. I like American football too, just don’t have enough hours in the day for all the sports so that and cliff diving have to fall by the wayside.

    2. Yeah, their aforementioned loss of momentum is a bit of a shame. I have been watching what’s probably one of the causes of said loss though, and TUF 20 is mostly fun. The girly drama can get a little wearying but the fights are entertaining. Still like the Velasquez vs Werdum TUF better though.

    3. I’ve seen so many people talk about Scarlet Johanson’s performance as if it was literally Oscar-worthy but I can’t connect to it at all. Sounds like an old animated movie voice performance to me. Plus she was just too cute(sy) right from the boot up. It didn’t feel like she developed even though she said she developed.

    4. Me too. And me too. Except the Austin bit. There’s a theatre in Auckland which does 70mm screenings sometimes but I’m not sure if they’re doing Intersteller.

    5. Thanks Rob! That’s fucking SWEET. Semi-related style-wise, were you ever a fan of Portishead?

Ah, shit, I forgot to remove the quote tag. I promise I’ll never make that mistake again as long as I live.

    2. Yeah, girly drama can be bad. Fights are ok though.

The others I will move to a new thread because they really have no bearing on MMA.

This is the least nervous I’ve ever been for any of Mark’s fights, not because I expect him to win, but because of the opposite. I’ve convinced myself Werdum’s crafty movement (I think he’s even better than JDS in this area) will keep him out of danger and his almost certainly superior conditioning, range and very handy muay thai will be enough to get him a points win at least. If Mark fades in the thin Mexico City air, as everyone expects, he might even get finished. I’m really taking “expect the worst, hope for the best” to heart on this one. If Mark wins I will explode like I’ve never exploded before.

Kelvin/Jake should be interesting, although I fear Jake’s slide in his last couple may not be an anomaly and Kelvin may take it with disappointing ease. Dennis Bermudez is never in a boring fight so him and Lamas should kick ass. Did you end up watching much of TUF Velasquez vs Werdum Robby?
