ParticipantYeah, but LIVER!!!
Sorry, I can’t remember whether it was a Strikeforce or Bellator or something, but somebody got hit with a liver shot and the commentator yelled “LIVER!!” so loud that every time somebody gets hit, I yell that.
But yeah, liver shots completely immobilize you. If you watch it again, she gets hit two or three times with one hand on the ground and one on her stomach, and by the time she starts to react and stand back up, Herb’s already on his way in. I think he’s the man, and I really don’t question any of his calls. I don’t think the Faber one was early, either. Faber should’ve stood up, not flash a thumbs up from behind Barao’s leg.

ParticipantIt’s the part where she starts to get back to work after only a couple of shots that made me think Herb was premature. Liver shots are no fun, but they’re not all created equal and he overestimated the effect of this one. Plus it’s a championship fight and it’s not like Ronda was landing a barrage of deadly strikes.
I finally saw the Kim/Hathaway fight, which was a lot of fun. Loose as hell, but loose as hell fun.

ParticipantIf all is right with the universe there’s a Rob Solo Show on its way where you yap about the contenders for Johny’s belt at 170. I don’t know how long Johny is out but it looks like between surgery recovery and training camp it’ll be at least 6 months, so these guys may even end up on a mini-tournament to get a shot when he comes back. Assuming GSP doesn’t come back at the same time who do you like from the chasing pack of Lombard, T-Wood, Rory and that Nick Dia$?
Also, which of the three WW interviews (GSP, Johny, T-Wood) from Ariel’s show this week did you enjoy the most?.

ParticipantAlso, now that Johny is held up injured it may allow Matt Brown, who doesn’t fight for another 6-7 weeks, back into the picture because he has not only the longest win streak but a win streak made almost entirely of finishes. If he can rock his business all over Erick Silva he won’t have a top 10 win but he’ll be a fan favourite with a lot more momentum than some of these other cats.

ParticipantI don’t know how much you’re into the non-MMA jitz Robby, but if you are nerdy enough this is a really fun episode of Rogan’s podcast where Eddie Bravo and Joe watch and comment on Eddie’s recent rematch with Royler Gracie at Metamoris.

ParticipantWe got lucky with the latest two events – twenty or so very fun fights in less than a week. Really want to see Yoel The Soldier of God fight a top guy. Kennedy The Other Soldier of God would be a very intriguing match up for him, not least because we’d get to see who God likes better.
Also need to see Khabib fight a top flight opponent except everyone above him is already matched, injured or playing hard to get.

ParticipantYeah, it’s been pretty fantastic. Surprising about Browne, but they’re saying he broke a rib and his hand in the first round. I really expected him to steamroll Verdum.
And Cerrone/Barbosa – just wow.

ParticipantI’d heard Dana mention the possible injuries for Browne right after the fight but this morning there’s no mention of them in the medical reports so who knows who was telling who what. And this’ll seem like 20/20 hindsight but I was more surprised how heavy a favourite Browne was and that Rogan was all “NOBODY EXPECTED THIS!!!”. I like Browne but the post-roids, reduced version of Overeem really should have beaten him without too much trouble and 8/10 times that fight would have been stopped the seventeenth time Browne was dropped and pummelled. As it was Browne only won because Overeem was so overconfident and ignored the first eighteen front kicks.
Meanwhile I don’t know if you ever saw Werdum/Overoids but Werdum easily took the first round of their fight not with BJJ, but with muay thai. Comprehensively out-kickboxed old K1 McGhee. Admittedly a good percentage of Werdum’s success in that round was due to Overeem not being able to work out what to do with a guy who showed negative TDD, but Werdum engaged a lot with strikes and clinches and Reem did sweet eff all. Then Werdum jacked his knee about 30 sec into R2 and went downhill from there. I know that MMA math stuff is itself an imperfect way to analyse stuff, but Werdum’s Cordeiro muay thai has been legit for a number of years now. When Werdum’s uninjured nobody has looked any good against him since JDS in 2008.

ParticipantHave you been watching TUF Frankie vs BJ? Some very fun fights in the qualifying show and a solid test for much hyped Cathal Pendred in ep 2. I love watching Frankie and BJ too – with their the Jersey/Hawaii dynamic they almost couldn’t be more opposite.

ParticipantI have. I just love BJ so much that I’ve got to watch. Plus, word is Mark Coleman’s pretty awesome this season, too.
April 25, 2014 at 7:27 pm #62936Bucho
ParticipantYeah, Coleman’s great, plus he has Andre Pederneiras on board and everyone who’s worked with him says that dude is a wizard.
