    DESTROYED!!!

Yeah, he could have done it better (like Chael … no wait, I mean like Hendo) and there are a lot of fans who side with you on this one. The irony is that since their dust up in Brazil John Morgan (multiple-time MMA journalist of the year until that upstart Ariel turned up with his fancy videos) has spent a lot of time talking with Vitor and has come round to Vitor’s side on the matter.

It’s going to be good to see Chris be tested by someone new though. I’m guessing he won’t be back as fast as Ronda but he’s come out of the fight unhurt so hopefully he decides on an April return rather than a June one.

I know those guys have done TRT, too, but they were never previously hit for taking actual steroids.

April and I actually had a pretty heated discussion about this, because I likened Vitor’s behavior to Tom Skerritt’s character in Contact, with his fake Christianity, and using it as a weapon against Jodie Foster’s character. I finally had to drop it because April thought I was attacking Christianity, but I wasn’t.

Chris did say that he has some knee issues that he’s gonna get looked at, so there is that.

Did you do the Fight Pass thing for this morning Robby? I didn’t – just watched the main card on TV – but I will for future events. From the twitter feedback I’ve seen it seems largely a positive experience for folks.

Meanwhile, how about the massive heart on Lim. Gotta love a dude who comes out on one leg for the final round with full-on war cries. Maybe don’t gotta love a dude who’s winning easily with leg kicks but keeps choosing to grapple though.

I did do the Fight Pass. I think it’s a no-brainer, even when they start charging. There’s something really awesome about typing in a name and being able to see any fights they’ve done. The library isn’t 100% yet (Strikeforce fights aren’t there, for example), but I really like what they’ve done so far. Add in the fact that they’ll add in support for iPads and Apple TVs and Rokus and all that shit, and you’ve got a lot of value if you’re a crazy fan like me.

Lim was impressive, sure, but it sure seems like Saffiedine could’ve finished it. It almost seemed like he felt sorry for him there. I know there’s such a thing as honor and sportsmanship and all that, but I think both could’ve saved some damage if he’d just got it over with.

Oh really? I’ll have to watch it again and look at her lips this time.

Meanwhile I was really happy for Brad Tavares winning as underdog against Larkin. Partly I’m biased because he’s a Ray Sefo fighter, but I also love the combination of smarts and toughness Tavares has. He ate everything Larkin threw and countered almost every time, which is a very Ray way of fighting and ensures your opponent doesn’t get into bully mode. Also, way too many fighters don’t realise how effectice it is to feint and Brad feinted a bunch and jammed Larkin’s timing up real nice. Just as well too, because Larkin was throwing heavy business. It’d be nice if Brad could get a finish, but apart from that I like his style a lot.

TJ Dillashaw also looked scary-good. Hope he fights again soon.

Tavares really hasn’t impressed me so far, but that’s just me.

I never liked Dillashaw as a person because he was so stuck up on TUF, but I can’t deny that the kid’s got talent. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in that division, what with Faber being his teammate and all.

No, I hear you Robby, Tavares is ONLY 6-1 in the UFC and just beat the guy who beat the guy who’s about to fight Johny Bigg Rigg for the belt, there’s nooooooooooooo reason to be impressed by that.

Seriously though, it’s understandable these guys who don’t finish like him and Carmont fly under the radar a little. Nobody’s angling to have either of them main event a card. Not that that’s much comfort for Lorenz Larkin.

That main event just made me sad. Bad enough that Josh Thompson won 1,2 and 4 in real life and lost on two judges score cards but now he’s talking retirement?

I want to like Ben Hendecision … uh … I mean Henderson … but it’s really hard to sometimes. And it’s not even all his fault that judges seem to have a crush on him and award him rounds he hasn’t won. Maybe it’s the hair.

I really don’t know about all that. I think it really depends on what you favor in a fight. Yes, Josh had more control in a couple of those rounds. But I believe in round 1, Benson came closer to finishing and/or put Josh in more danger.

Now, I’m not going to sit here and say that it was correct. In fact, I told April before the scorecards were read that I thought Benson won but that they were going to give it to Josh. She said split decision? I said yes, probably. When Bruce said 49-46, I was sure that he was going to say Josh, but he didn’t.

I thought Benson won three rounds – 1, 3 and 5, for the record, but I really thought it could go either way. This is yet another reason that judging needs to be looked at. It really shouldn’t be that vague.

You’re a maverick giving R1 to Bendo Robby, the two unanimously scored rounds were 1 for Thomson and 3 for Bendo. From reading the journalists who scored it live the swing round this time seems to be R2. 12 vs 3 scored the fight for Thomson but most also said R2 was tighter than a nun’s. But Matt Erickson, who I respect the most of those journos polled, gave the fight to Bendo, so I’m not about to call you crazy.

That’s the thing about Ben Hendecision fights, they can always go either way. He could just as easily be 1-4 in his last 5 instead of 4-1, but as a man of science I’d prefer he follow the law of averages and be either 3-2 or 2-3 right now. That lucky toothpick must be the real deal.

Either way though, for Thomson to go that close after breaking his thumb in R2 only makes me love that dude all the more.

Funny thing is he never impressed me in Strikeforce. His last two fights he looked really impressive.

For round one, I was looking at the fact that even though he had Bendo’s back for half the round, Ben got closer to finishing the fight. The fact that people are disagreeing this much round to round tells me something needs to change.

Thomson has been up and down, but did you not think he was good in his third fight with Gil?

Nah, not really. In fact, I don’t know how much Strikeforce you watched, but most fights definitely felt second class. A good example is Gil Melendez – he never really impressed me in Strikeforce either, but he definitely brings it in the UFC. Maybe it’s because the level of competition is so much higher across the board, but it’s almost like each one has taken it up a notch now they’re in the UFC.

It’ll be interesting to see what Josh does, though – he’s definitely up there in the division, but who knows? Who I really can’t wait to see again is Khabib Nurmagomedov – now THAT’S a future champion.
