ParticipantThis is a pretty interesting article from Ben Fowlkes on open scoring in MMA. Obviously I still would have posted it even if it hadn’t mostly supported my take on the matter. I mean, obviously.

ParticipantHorrible news about Shane Del Rosario. A great guy by all accounts and a really entertaining fighter too.
I don’t know who to root for in the main event today because I enjoy both guys – probably leaning toward Gray though, since I think he has the best chance of the two of them to make another title run. I really want Davey Grant to take the men’s final, just because he’s the most likable guy I’ve ever seen on the show, but Holdsworth is out of Alpha Male so he has his hands full. All the other fights I’m pretty neutral on, although I find Roxy the most intriguing person from TUF 18 so I’ll probably pull for her over Rocky. It’d be cool if Jessica won too, since she’s 36 and Pena’s still a young thing, but Jessica’s small for 135 and Pena’s such a fucking machine, I think she’ll probaly overwhelm Jessica and take it.

ParticipantYeah, I’m still in the middle of this, but I really don’t have many preferences at all here. I’m rooting for Team Rousey for the most part, because I think Meisha Tate is a twat.

ParticipantDamn, I guess I jinxed them.
I sure am powerful.

ParticipantDid you see the post fight interview with Rousey and Tate? People are giving her a lot of shit for being snarky, but I don’t mind that kind of stuff. I don’t understand why Rousey gets shit for it when the Diaz brothers have been doing this kind of stuff for years and they don’t get this kind of hate for the most part.

ParticipantYeah, I just thought she was hilarious, just like it is when the Diaz boys are acting up.

ParticipantMy wife got free tickets to the UFC in Brisbane this weekend so we’re jetting over to see our boys duke it out. Although, I’m probably not even going to be able to watch Te Huna/Shogun. I guess I’m hoping for a draw in that one.
Anyway, should be fun. I’ve been to dozens of muay thai, kickboxing and MMA events but nothing on the scale of this one. I’m expecting shitty seats so I won’t be disappointed. That way if they’re bad seats I’m all square, but if they’re good ones I’ll be rejoicing like a champion.

ParticipantHoly shit, dude! It’s be awesome if you got on TV. Here’s hoping you get to meet some of those guys.
Did you hear that Jones v Texeira is going to be in March in Dallas? First UFC event in Dallas since we started watching, but I don’t know about that one. We’ll see.

ParticipantHow is it? awesome?
Oh, who am I kidding. You’re probably not checking the forums during the fights.

ParticipantSince you aren’t posting or tweeting, I expect a full report. Maybe a video…?

ParticipantIt sure was awesome Rob, I’ll yap about it more when I get time but for now I’ll say being in that crowd as it went nutso bonkers during Hunt/Bigfoot was stupendously magical. We had great seats too, maybe 50-60 yards back and elevated so we could look down into the cage, so apart from the ever-present obscurations caused by the cage stanchions we had a great view.
I’ll also say that as much as it sucked seeing James’s night end so quickly, when Shogun ran and mounted the cage to roar at the crowd we were in the section directly in front of him and I had my arms raised high in salute to him and the hairs stood up on my arms and the back of my neck and probably the soles of my feet. After being a fan of that guy since his Pride days I almost couldn’t believe it was happening.

ParticipantThat’s awesome. I thought about you so many times watching the card unfold, and I hoped that you had as good a time as I did watching it here, because I kept shaking my head thinking, “This has been a great night of fights, and I bet Bucho lost his shit.”

ParticipantI did lose my voice and my hearing, but thankfully maintained my shit in its rightful position. Only just though.
The one bummer was we missed the first two rounds of the girlfight due to muh-hassive lines for food, but we saw everything else. Maybe the ludicrously one-sided Bader/Perosh fight could be considered another bummer. The crowd hated the Richie Vas stoppage so much they booed Steve Percival for the rest of the night. Don’t know how much you know about Richie, but he’s very popular in Oz as a big wave surfer and member of the notorious Bra Boys surf gang.
I don’t know how it came across on TV yet, but the crowd was raucous as heck to be in the middle of. Mark said on Ariel’s show it was the loudest he’d experienced so I guess I wasn’t imagining it.

ParticipantIt sounded nuts on TV, almost like Brazil.
By the way, first sentence of second paragraph, I heard you in my head when I read that, and it made me chuckle.
