ParticipantI saw that. I did think it was funny.

ParticipantDid you hear Dana for 2.5 hours talking to Joe Rogan Robby? Most of what they talk about you probably already knew but it’s cool to hear it first hand from the man himself. They did it before the weekend so they don’t talk about 157, but they talk about almost everything else.

ParticipantYes, I did, and it was. Their reactions about King Mo was pretty funny, too.
One thing, though – do you think Joe Rogan is funny? I mean his standup – he seems likable enough otherwise, but his standup is terrible to me. You ever watch any of that stuff?

ParticipantI’ve watched some of it but it was a long time ago and it never grabbed me. I knew him as an actor (News Radio) before I knew him as a commentator and a standup. I like his podcast but not enough to listen to every episode, just whenever he has guests I’m interested in.

ParticipantI’m so stupidly caught up in this I probably won’t even be able to really enjoy any of the other fights until the main event because I’m so nervous for Mark’s fight.

ParticipantYou and your fellow Kiwis.
It’s not often that I get all caught up in a fight where I get all nervous and shit. But that’s probably because there’s so many U.S. fighters that I don’t have the energy to be all into them.

ParticipantRobby did you see that?
DID YOU SEE THAT ROBBY MICHAELS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

ParticipantOh yeah, true dat Robby, we only have two to choose from. But my bias goes even more for Mark than for Jamie Te Huna because that big white boy in his corner is my jiu-jitsu coach Steve Oliver.
That’s why Struve couldn’t sub him. Oliver MMA baby.

ParticipantI did see that. I almost posted, but didn’t know if I should post spoilers and shit.
So, he’s literally your jiujitsu coach? Or is that like saying Jesus is my copilot?

ParticipantYeah, not like one-on-one or anything though, I’ve only been at his school for 18 months or so but 90% of the time he’s the guy who teaches the class. He’s been in Mark’s corner for years, even back to the Pride days (and his slide days) because he used to live in Aus where Mark lives and Steve’s huge and a former boxer and wrestler as well as a black belt so they trained together all the time. But Steve moved back to NZ a few years ago so now Mark just comes over for part of his camp sometimes. He still has Steve corner him every time though and they’re on the phone to each other to game-plan and all that malarky. The first time I went into the gym and Mark was in there rolling with one of our guys I was totally star-struck.
I liked Gomi/Sanchez and Wandy/Stann was crazy too, but it was one of those fights where I didn’t really want either of them to lose. Either way was going to be a little bit heartbreaking but they put on a hell of a show. A second FOTY contender only a week after Bermudez/Grice, right? Or maybe they won’t give it because it was only a round and a half.

ParticipantWell, it was definitely round of the year so far. But, my only problem was how non-technical it was. That round seemed to be a relic of a bygone era.
That’s cool about you and Mark and his coach and stuff. So you do jiujitsu too. Wow. Like a wonderful onion, you are.

ParticipantIt was classic Wandy for sure – ugly but brutally effective. And that seemed so perfectly fitting in that arena.

ParticipantI’m guessing you saw the news? UFC 160 with the co-main being JDS vs Hunt? You’re gonna be a nervous wreck.

ParticipantYeah, it’s my two favourite guys in the HWs. This is even worse than Machida vs Rua a couple of years ago.
I just hope it goes to the judges and they get FOTN.
