I see boobies. They’re both kind of butter faces, aren’t they?

And Rosie – that made me throw up in my mouth a little.

So, did you see it? Lots of upsets, one real downer fight, but overall pretty damn awesome. And some amazing possibilities for Aldo next, straight outta Dana’s mouth.

Pettis vs Aldo is too good to be true so one of them is definitely getting injured before it can happen. Definitely. Both guys looked way too quick for their most recent opponents so I can’t wait to see who’s the quickest draw at 145.

I can’t get enough of what Bigfoot did to Overeem. The story of that fight couldn’t have developed any better. Reem comes in talking cocky, goes through round one and two fighting cocky, ends round three wondering where he is while Bigfoot looms over him hollering at him to get back up and keep fighting with Herb Dean trying to wrestle him away. Amazing what Maia was able to do to Fitch too. I still feel like Maia’s striking is too limited to be a danger to GSP and he’d probably end up like Koschek did, but I kind of want to see him try now. I’d love to see him fight a guy like Rory or Hendricks first though.

I think that’s the plan with Maia. OutFitched Fitch, that’s for sure.

Bigfoot reminds me of one of those guys that growing up was probably pushed into fighting because of his size, so there’s a smidgen of pity that comes along with him. He seems so kind and gentle. I was so impressed with that. Of course, you could look at Overeem’s transformation over the last few years and attribute it to his juice, and here, without it, he’s not the same fighter he’s been, but it’s still impressive.

Pettis vs Aldo is gonna be great, but yeah, injury is something to look at.

I thought Overeem looked good, easily taking the first couple of rounds. His failure wasn’t physical so I don’t put it down to PEDs, or lack of, as much as I put it down to pure arrogance leading to him not taking Bigfoot’s striking seriously at all.

I really can’t wait to see Maia again. It’s possible that when he faces a striker it’ll expose him all over again, but the pure dominance over both Story and Fitch has been so damn impressive he’s become one of the most exciting prospects around to me. I think he was something like 9-4 at MW, so he was handling the majority of guys at 185, and now at 170 it seems like he can manhandle guys who’re equal in size to him because he’s so used to fighting guys who are 10-20lbs bigger.

I just don’t think so, regarding Overeem. I really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but you have to admit, he wasn’t as explosive as he was with Brock, and yes, he did win the rounds, but I think it has more to do with Bigfoot not attacking.

Maia’s run at WW is impressive, but I don’t really consider him to be able to beat the top guys. I’d really like to see him against Henricks next.

He did look deadly against Brock, but I didn’t give Reem a whole lot of credit for that because Brock just looked like a shell of his former self after the very serious illness and 14 months off and I felt like Brock’s fire was gone after his loss to Cain.

The fight where I really began to feel like Overeem was overrated as a top level threat was the Werdum fight, where Werdum was outstriking this vaunted striker – outkickboxing a kickboxing champion – until Werdum stepped weird and hurt his own knee and had to pull back. Ironically it was similar to a Bigfoot fight, against Travis Browne, where Browne fucked his own leg up. But even when Werdum was hobbled Overeem failed to make any significant mark on him. Not that I want to slight Werdum at all – that guy has improved his striking tremendously under Cordeiro and Overeem was smart enough not to fuck with him – just that I never really bought Overeem as this terrifying destroyer bound for the belt even when he was on the juice. I had actually picked Bigfoot to win. To my shame though I had also picked Rashad and Edgar to win (thought my boy Aldo would struggle more after the layoff), so it’s not like I can really claim to be any kind of soothsayer.

I don’t think you could have gotten all the fights right that night. Who really could have predicted Rashad fighting like that? He also said he hurt his hand in the first round and lost his confidence, so there is that.

I still say that Overeem may not be all that. The one guy I absolutely can’t wait to see in the UFC is Gegard Mousasi. I really hope he keeps his mind right, because he’s got the potential to be a killer.

It’s always hard to pick fights in this sport, which is why it’s so much fun to follow. Even moment to moment shifts in fortune are always possible. I hadn’t heard that Rashad had hurt his hand but it makes sense. I was really happy to be wrong about Aldo’s fate coming back from the long layoff though. He looked so much quicker than Frankie in the first two rounds it wasn’t even slightly close. I don’t know if you were wearing your Samurai t-shirt but I was wearing mine. I love that kid to death.

A lot of the Strikeforce guys are doing great in the UFC so far so there’s no reason Mousasi can’t tear his way through to a title fight. They’ve put him straight in there with A-Gus so we’ll find out soon enough. It’ll be interesting to see if they bring Feijao in once his suspension is up too. I haven’t seen all his Strikeforce fights but the guy has never gone to the judges in 15 fights. I think the WEC guys have already proven that there are organisations outside the UFC with fighters every bit as good as UFC fighters and now the Strikeforce guys are reinforcing it. What’ll be really interesting is if they can sort out this Eddie Alvarez bollocks and find out how he goes against UFC guys, and then we’ll know more about how Michael Chandler stacks up also.

Yeah, I think it’s been proven over and over that because a guy is in another organization doesn’t necessarily mean that the guy will falter in the UFC. I say that, but I think Melendez doesn’t really have a shot at beating Benson.

I don’t think I was wearing my Dethrone shirt. I’m not sure what I was wearing.

Probably nothing but baby oil. Brittney and Ariany have that effect on me too.

I had my head in my hands for the entire first round of the James Te Huna fight after Jimmo clocked him with that head kick but hot damn he turned it around for the rest of the match.

I’m starting to be as much in love with Renan Barao as I am with Jose Aldo too. He’s such a goofy-ass motherfuck, very different in personality to Aldo, but in the cage the way those Nova Uniao boys do their thing is riveting to watch. They’re so damn electric it’s glorious. He took some significant whacks from a guy who’s knocked out a ton of opponents and recovered superfast not just to survive but to regain dominant positions. Can’t wait to see him fight Cruz.

I mean I literally can’t wait. I’m literally building an actual time machine.

Yeah, I was wondering if you were nervous about that, but James weathered the storm nicely. Good fight.

The Barao/McDonald fight was cool, but I came away with one thing – if Dominic Cruz comes back even at 80%, I believe he would beat either one handily.

Overall, I’d say it was a pretty lackluster night, but maybe that’s because the guys I was rooting for in a lot of the fights didn’t come out on top or brought less than stellar performances. I wanted to see McDonald put up more of a fight, but he seemed really hesitant. Poirier looks like he’s lost something.

The thing about McDonald was he was so relaxed he looked too calm in there. You often hear fighters say they have their worst performances when they’re not nervous and McDonald seemed as far from nervous as it’s possible to get. I thought Gunnar Nelson looked calm earlier but McDonald made it look like the Icelander had been on meth.
