He sure says all the right things but he acts like he’s more in love with himself than Kim Kardashian. That’s why he gets the faker tag. The way he’s always posing, the way he looks past his opponent at weigh-ins, the way he dropped Machida like a sack of spuds when he knew he was unconscious, the intentional eye pokes in the Rampage fight, the eye gouge with the thumb against Rua … the guy just seems more an more like a nasty piece of work to me.
A lot of the way he acts you could pin on Anderson too, particularly his behaviour at weigh-ins, but with Anderson there’s usually a goofy sense of humour underlying it. Bones seems to believe his own hype like crazy. Maybe he really is God’s gift to the octagon, but to fully enjoy his work I have to see him as the villain because I don’t see him acting like the hero.

ParticipantWhat you just said has offended me to my very core. Nah, not really, I can’t be mad at you, you lovely Kiwi, you!
I don’t remember the eye poking. I thought Jones walked away from Machida because he thought Big John had him, but who knows – maybe its because I think he’s so sexy. I know I wouldn’t be able to look my opponent in the eye because I’d start laughing, but then again, that’s probably why I’m not a fighter and sitting in my man chair drinking mulled wine and crumpets.

ParticipantThe eye poking in the Rampage fight was almost funny. They’re on their feet and Bones is just pawing at Rampage’s eye while Rampage has his back against the cage and you see the first poke and Rampage turns to Josh Rosenthal like, “Did you see that shit?” like he can’t believe how blatant it is. Then about 8 seconds later he does it again and Rampage is like, “What The Fuck Josh!?!?” They’re blatant pokes that Josh should have seen, not hidden like when he was using his thumb to eye-gouge Shogun on the ground. That sort of stuff doesn’t belong in MMA, it belongs in Rugby at the bottom of the scrum.
I think with dropping Machida you just need to ask yourself “What would Brian Stann have done?” Of course it’s unfair to expect people to live up to Stann’s level of awesomeness, but I can’t help it, I think I’m in love with him.

KeymasterYou guys sure love to talk up your man-on-man action. I’m surprised Lark hasn’t dropped a link in here for ya yet.

ParticipantIf they played football topless maybe I’d pay more attention to the stuff between the Superbowl commercials.

ParticipantSpeaking of which, when me and the missus were planning our wedding and honeymoon we had the Saturday for the wedding and were going to leave for the honeymoon on the Sunday but then she says, “We can’t go on Sunday, it’s UFC-145 and we’ll be away for a week so by that time it’ll have self-deleted from the DVR because it’s pay-per-view. We’ll have to leave on Monday.”
That’s how I know I’m marrying the perfect woman in 3 hours.
It’s also why I might be off the forums for a week, but who knows, maybe they have internet in the South Island these days.

ParticipantWhat a catch! Congrats, Bucho. Sorry to see you’re off the market (I always thought I might have a chance). I guess, as they say, if you love somebody, set them free…

ParticipantI’ll totally grease up and hold hands with you on the forums any time Lark.
Meanwhile I can’t remember the last time I viscerally felt so scared for a fighter than when Alan Belcher went to the ground with Palhares and decided to play the legs with him. Maybe it was when Brock got the takedown against Cain and the size difference made it look like Hulk was about to have his way with Wolverine. I really thought Belcher was going to end up with his knee in two pieces, which is what made it even more wildly thrilling when he not only hung in there but turned the tables and got the stoppage. I get goosebumps even now just thinking about it. I have no idea if Belcher can hang with the top guys at 185 like Sonnen or Bisping or Anderson but the fact he got past Palhares like that certainly put his name right up in the mix.
And I have nothing at all against Jim Miller but I loved seeing Nate Diaz get another win too. He sure comes off dumb when he’s yapping but his fighting shows a ton of mental firepower and I can forgive all that 209 Thug stuff pretty easily just because he’s never ever boring.

ParticipantAgreed on both counts. Not a bad card at all.
May 16, 2012 at 4:49 am #29097rob
ParticipantNow, TONIGHT — that was a great card. The only snore-fest was the co-main event. Every other fight, including the prelims, were so great. The Zombie/Poirier fight was a huge surprise.
Next Saturday should be interesting – a totally heavyweight main card could be a really short night. Not sure if you all know this, but Evan Dunham was supposed to fight Edson Barboza (one of my favorite fighters), but Dunham got hurt and was replaced by Jamie Fucking Varner. I hate Varner with a passion, and hope Edson knocks his head clean off. Dan Hardy is fighting on the Facebook prelims, which is a bummer. He needs to win to secure his job – he’s lost four straight and is still around because he’s so damn entertaining, but that will only get you so far (usually, a fighter will get cut after three straight losses). I don’t like picking winners, so I won’t. I will say that I want Junior, Cain, Roy, Stipe and Mark to win though.
For those who haven’t seen the fights on the UFC on Fuel 3 card (and actually care enough to watch it), don’t scroll down to see what I have to say below…
Still with me? Ok, Zombie shocked the hell out of me. Who knew that he could be such a complete fighter? I mean, I love his past fights, but I was really pulling for ol’ Dustin on this one, but he just couldn’t get it done. Zombie was such a force in every aspect of the fight, and it was so damn entertaining, that you wish that you could get Championship fights to be this good.

ParticipantSon of a bitch. Mark Hunt is out due to a knee injury. Lavar Johnson takes his place against Struve. He’s kinda meh to me, but if he can KO Struve like I thought Mark would, he’d definitely move up in my rankings.
May 18, 2012 at 7:36 pm #28931Bucho
ParticipantI know man, it’s huge bummer about Mark. He’d worked his ass off for this fight too, was in the best shape of his life and ready to rock. At least it’s only PCL and not ACL, so should only be out for a couple of months. The doc said he could fight if he wanted, but one leg kick could really hobble him and mess the fight up real quick.
The Fuel 3 card really was so much fun. Muay thai clinics from Eduardo and Cerrone, goofball Cody MacKenzie with a solid finish, a typically dopey looking knockout from Tom Lawlor, great 15 minute battle between Maldonaldo and Pokrajac and that badass performance from Rafael dos Anjos. It seems like Jeremy Stephens went into the fight with Cerrone thinking he could do what Nate Diaz had done and that Cerrone wasn’t as tough as he looks, but Cerrone disabused him of that notion pretty damn quick.
I think we found out that Dustin was right when he said he’s not ready for the title shot. I know he got shit from some quarters for not stepping up but it was smart on his part. He’s young and has a ton of potential so he’ll only get better and better and maybe in a year he’ll be ready for a title shot, but right now he’s not – you can’t help but think Aldo would have destroyed him. Awesome to see Zombie get the win though – I think it’s really good for the sport to see a popular guy like that really step up his game and not just climb the rankings but climb them entertainingly.

ParticipantHo-ly SHIT that was a fun card. 10/11 fights were either fantastic or at least pretty damn entertaining and even the dud fight was a little bit funny because of Miller’s clowning.
7 first round finishes and more blood than a Great White feeding frenzy. Good times.

ParticipantSi. There be 146 spoilers ahead!
Varner was a huge surprise. I said before the fight to the wife that it kinda scares me that Varner seemed really hungry, so even though he seemed lazy in the last few years, he looked spectacular tonight against Barboza.
And yay, Dan! He looked awesome. Fuckin’ Roy – only three punches! And Cain – remember the movie boner? Yeah, MMA boner right there. That was so badass. Mayhem disappointed – it will be interesting to see if he really was hurt.
FRESH UPDATE: Mayhem has been cut. Dana said he was disappointed with his pre-fight bullshit, and thathe should retire.
On top of that, just heard that Vitor’s hand has been broken, so UFC 147’s main event will be Vanderlei vs. TBA. Bummer.
