KeymasterIt’s funny how irritated he would get over the years about the SW franchise, and just after plans were announced and he finally did one appearance allowing SW related questions, it’s like he’s this totally different guy. Did someone pull him aside and say “Hey Harrison, people kind of love you, but they also kind of think you can be a huge ass.” or something? it’s weird, but I like it.

ParticipantMy guess is he’s always been into talking about whatever his current project was but Star Wars hasn’t been his current project for decades, so he got bored talking about it. Now it’s his current project again, so he’s all, “Let’s do some Star Wars stuff you guys.”

ParticipantHarrison’s pretty good in this too even though it’s not exactly the best bit in the world.

ParticipantI remember Carrie Fisher being good in 30 Rock, turns out she’s pretty funny in interviews too.

Keymasteryeah, it was funny to see her pick on that interviewer but keep it light and fun. I just wish her face contained less recycled milk containers because it’s distracting.

ParticipantRewatched the OT recently and am going to listen to the SOS commentaries again over the next couple of days. Might even put on SOS-093, my old pal I listened to about 50 times as I tried to stay sane in the jungle, with that great chunk of Star Wars talk in the second half of it.
Reminds me of how Star Wars references were one of the hooks that got me into Switched ON in the first place, back in the good old summer of ’05. Those lead to me downloading your whole back catalogue (glorious months worth of 2 shows a week) which of course included the build up for Revenge of the Sith.
Which made me think it’s kind of a bummer this new one is coming out and you boys haven’t been recording a podcasts in the lead up. I mean, obviously you COULD record one when you’ve all seen it at least once. Maybe even get Bryan’s lads to chip in with their take on it all.
But, y’know, I wouldn’t want to get my hopes up or anything.
Meanwhile I have tickets for Friday. I’m not expecting genius from the film, just hoping it’s solid and fun and JJ and co haven’t made any decisions which are too shit. (I mean, any more decisions aside from the goofy lightsaber crossguards.)

ParticipantYeah, sorry about that. I feel like I owe at least a health update show, but I’m still recovering. This one’s been rough. I honestly was thinking I’d have a problem actually making it to the premiere Thursday night as of this weekend, but I’ve really turned a corner and I’m feeling much better.
I honestly like JJ a lot. He seems like one of us, and he just seemed really intent on trying to make the best movie possible. I have a feeling that I’m going to have little problem with it. I mean, shit, I actually liked Terminator Genisys, so there you go. Must be getting soft in my old age.

ParticipantThe SOS Episode IV commentary still holds up. For the first 80 minutes anyway, then you guys get tired.
In particular Robby continually hollering “LUUUUUUUUKE!!!” is still stupidly hilarious.

ParticipantSome great new characters and a pretty solid old story. The thing on the bridge hit me pretty hard. Not because of who went out, but because of how. So dark it makes Empire seem like Caravan of Courage.
A lot of magic in it though. It really barrels along in that JJ way, so there’s not much time to take in all the world building but from what I could take in I loved about 96% of it.

ParticipantI’m seeing it again today, in about 7 hours. Will be the first thing I’ve seen more than once in theatres since Guardians of the Galaxy, which I saw 3 times on the big screen.

ParticipantBryan and I were able to see it Thursday night, but Jerry will not be seeing it until Tuesday. I’ve warned him to stay away just in case.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to think when the credits rolled. I felt kinda numb, like I just didn’t know if I liked it. There were a couple of really weird things, though – first, the whole theater was like asleep or something. No reaction when Long Time Ago, Star Wars logo, nothing. For Episode III, people went batshit crazy. Here, nothing.
Second, I think not only was the overall volume not loud enough, but the mix seemed off, too. The music just wasn’t hitting.
A couple of days later, I listened to the score on my badass sound system in my living room, all turned up and sounding awesome, and lo and behold, I started to be moved, literally to tears, especially with Rey’s theme and the “Torn Apart” scene. I’m now completely convinced that the reason it didn’t hit me like a ton of bricks that not only is this a new Star Wars movie and something to be celebrated, but this is a really good movie regardless, is because of the terrible sound and the apathy of the audience. I’m excited to see it again, and I will be seeing it again with the fam Christmas night, for sure, if not sooner.

ParticipantI felt kind of numb when the credits rolled the first time too, but that was mostly because of the bridge scene. Before that I’d been buzzing along with the film pretty well. I did think the last scene was pretty magnificent though.
I’m still bummed about the bridge scene, but the second time I liked the whole movie even more. Obviously it’s not perfect but the bits that fly, REALLY fly. I especially love Rey and Finn and Poe’s growing on me too.

ParticipantI haven’t seen it yet, and if I’m honest I don’t know that I will until its out on disk. I’m not entirely sure what it is about this one but I haven’t been hyped at all to see it. Maybe if our theatre does a cheap night, or Canadian money at par night would be worth it.

ParticipantYou probably should see it at least once on as big a screen as possible with the boom sound system Newman. If you didn’t like Abrams Star Trek I can see why you’d stay away, because stylistically it’s very much Abrams Star Wars rather than a continuation of the OT, but if you did like Abrams Trek and you do like Star Wars there’s a pretty good chance you’ll dig The Force Awakens, and it’s very much a cinematic deal.
