Hey, you’re the captain, Captain, just do whatever’s easiest. I mean the easiest aside from leaving it as it is, which would torment me in the night.

We will just start with this.

A shot comparison vidya between ANH and TFAVII. It could have been even more on point if it had gone full OT vs TFA (Han placing charges in Jedi vs Han placing charges in TFA, Luke falling in ESB vs Han falling in TFA etc.) but it does a good enough job.

And to be clear, I don’t blame JJ for making new shots which rhyme with old shots. I’ve gone at him for a few things, but this isn’t something I have much of a problem with. I just thought it was a neat, interesting vid.

This is very cool. And it also cements something in my mind – I really love this movie. For me, the only thing that really sort of halts the movie a bit and takes me out of it is the whole Starkiller base speech and the destruction of all those planets. Seems out of place for me, but then the movie picks back up and I’m back on the adventure.

I really have a fondness for Rey and Finn that seems to grow with every viewing, and to me that’s a testament to the richness of the characters.

I think there’s also a case to be made that as much as JJ built the skeleton of the new film from pieces of the OT, it’s not the pure rip-off a lot of folks are dismissing it as. This video shows that while there are these rhyming moments, JJ shoots his moments differently a lot of the time, particularly when it comes to having his camera (or at least his lenses) in motion much more than George did. Just as the story of TFA moves at a faster pace than the OT, the camera is also more dynamic.

I’ll probably cave when Disney releases 4K Star Wars, probably original six in a few years then all nine later on.

I really liked that video tearing apart the VFX work, really cool.

I like how it’s not all in your face. Like, there’s this great restraint shown here, or at least, that’s what I get from it. They could throw Vader’s voice throughout, or show a glimpse of him – I’m actually glad that they didn’t. It just doesn’t need it.

I’ll go on record and say that I still am pretty weary of them doing a Boba Fett or Han Solo movie, but if this is the kind of quality we can expect…who knows?

You must have that TFA blu-ray by now, right Robby? I mean, you must be about to get in your car and go for a drive and talk about it and the special features and stuff. Riiiiiight?

You know, I might just do that this weekend. I’ve been wanting to take a longer drive (the furthest I’ve driven since the beginning of the year is about 10 miles).

Y’know what dudes, I still haven’t seen a movie by Gareth Edwards. Haven’t seen Monsters or Godzilla. Not because I’ve been avoiding them, just because I haven’t got round to it. I should probably remedy that.

Godzilla had a nice sense of scale, but it was pretty poop. Definitely some cool moments, but I didn’t care about any of the human characters. Rogue One looks like it’s actually going to be a lot of fun, and not only that, be a great Star Wars movie.

Imagine being that guy. You make an indie sci-fi movie which gets you Godzilla, then for your second feature someone comes up and says, “Hey kid, wanna play with some Star Wars for your next movie?”

International trailer, complete with squiggles in some kind of alien language. I’m guessing Hutt-ese but I can’t be sure.
