Yes, I and others want Lucas out of Star Wars because even though he started it, when you look at what he’s done with it since then, and when you look at what other people have done with it since then, other people seem to do a much better job handling it than he these days.

Zahn, Stackpole, Travis, Denning, Allston. Who do you think gave them permission to write Star Wars stories.

You seem to be forgetting there is a difference between giving permission to do something, and doing it yourself.

This “movie” is basically the intro to the new series on Cartoon Network, right THX? I mean, wasn’t it originally going to be shown on TV, and they decided to do a theatrical release?

I am not sure if they were originally going to show the movie on TV, or if they decided to create the movie to just have something out in theaters to promote the show. But either way, yeah it is basically an intro to the cartoon series.

When it comes to the above article, I do have to disagree with it that there isn’t any interest in Star Wars among the younger generation. As I’ve heard elsewhere and as stated above (not calling you the younger generation or anything THX), there does still seem to be some interest and some new interest in it.

Being 18, I am definitely apart of the younger generation. And after getting heavily involved in other forums that are SW specific, I have seen how much interest in SW there really is in the younger generation. Amazingly enough to some people, the PT did create fans out of people that had never seen a SW film before.

And about the whiny Anakin thing. I admit that the sucky dialogue and bad delivery make it painful at times, but the whiny-ness itself I don’t have a problem with. He is a boy that was taken from his mom and raised by a what is basically a group of monks. He isn’t allowed to be normal or have normal relationships, so of course he will be whiny.

I will be the first to say the Lucas isn’t the best director or screenwriter, but we must remember that this is HIS story. There are plenty of writers out there that have done a good job expanding on it, but in the end it all goes back to Lucas. If he approves of something and says it is canon, it becomes a part of the story he created. If people don’t want to get involved with the EU or PT, that is fine, but you can’t hate Lucas for continuing the story he created. If it fits his vision, who are we to say he is screwing up his own story? It is like loving the LotR trilogy, then hating Tolkien for writing the other additions to the story. He felt that those things needed to be told, so he added them.

I personally think the direction Lucas applies to his stories now is invalid, one of my main examples being that he went back and redid ET to remove the shotguns and replace them with walkie-talkies. When he originally made ET, his personality, his views, were all fine with using shotguns. Now he wants walkie-talkies instead. For me that just shows that who he is has changed quite a bit from who he used to be (it all seems mostly politically motivated to me) and that his view is now inconsistent.

Basically what I’m getting at is that when he originally made Star Wars, he was one sort of person, and now he’s gone through more change than most authors go through in their lifetimes and therefore now he’s approaching Star Wars from a completely different angle than he did before, an angle that at least for me makes it all quite a bit less enjoyable.

The whiny Anakin thing I mostly attribute to the actor. A better, different actor would have done a much better job. But I think they should’ve been able to catch that in the auditioning phase, or at least very early on, and get someone more convincing to play the part.

I know there are plenty of people that like the prequel trilogy. There are always people out there that are going to like something no matter what it is. Heck, even Captain Beefheart had some fans. It just doesn’t work for me.

    Um, that was Spielberg.

But I know what you mean. It’s like when Oliver Stone took the Donald Duck scene out of Popeye, I mean, damn, dude, what a dick.

It was Spielburg that did the walkie-talkie switcharoo? I had read it was Lucas for some reason. Oh well, so that particular example doesn’t work anymore, but I still think Lucas is in such a different place now than he used to be that he can’t do justice to his old work, at least Star Wars.

I know. Like, Billy Crystal can’t go back and do Hee Haw now…

    The Force Unleashed.

Ok, so what is the big selling point behind this game (asides from different AI and Particle Physics depending on which console you have)…that the force is bigger and badder in this game.

fanboy to those in the care…..”We don’t give a good golly gosh darn about the force and the magnitude of it, we want to have lightsabers…now go make THAT game you buncha fucking tardos!”

    so say bing

Strange that it looks like it might deliver more than the movies as far as action goes. Not crazy about the plastic look of everyone, but it still looks pretty cool.

I’m there, I’m buying the hype. I know it’ll be missing the rogue sense of humor that made the original trilogy so much cooler but I just need to hear that John Williams magic and the sound of laser bolts and I’m in line with all the other dorks.

Speaking of that rogue sense of humor, what they need to do next is a tv series of Young Solo. We don’t need to use Harrison’s face anymore to make more stories of the coolest fictional badass ever.

He did have some nice pants, pants that I’d be proud to wear myself, but really his signature was his waitcoat. And his awesome blaster. And his walking carpet.

Don’t forget about his lounge robe, his pipe, and his original printing of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poetry. But I digress.
