ParticipantThis pretty much sums it up for me…

ParticipantLuke eventually goes over to the dark side? I’ve read a few of the books, but just a few, and I guess I never made it to the books where that happens.
I think my views that Lucas pretty much crapped all over Star Wars with how he did the new trilogy are pretty clear. Despite not liking Lucas, I think it would be interesting if he started coming out with some new stories and movies, as that article suggests, where they’re not already established cash-cows and he would have to actually put some effort into them to make them good.

He did fall to the dark side for a very short time, but he did it to try and save Han and Leia (sound familiar?). He thought he could get in close to the Reborn Emperor by pretending to be his apprentice and then kill him, but it went wrong.
I am nerd.

But I am very interested in seeing how this TV series turns out. It could be crap, it could be incredible, we’ll just have to wait and see.

ParticipantWhen it comes to the above article, I do have to disagree with it that there isn’t any interest in Star Wars among the younger generation. As I’ve heard elsewhere and as stated above (not calling you the younger generation or anything THX), there does still seem to be some interest and some new interest in it.
The reasons I didn’t care much for the prequel trilogy are because first of all, I couldn’t stand the kid they got to play Anakin in the first movie, and then I really, really couldn’t stand Hayden Christensen as Anakin in the other two movies. I think he and Lucas turned what should have been a very dark and complex character into nothing more than a whiny, annoying brat. That’s why I can never take Darth Vader seriously anymore and just call him Darth Sissypants.
Also, there are what I would call holes or unexplainable gaps between the first three and the second three… places where things said in the second three don’t quite jive with the first three, as if when making the prequels they weren’t careful about making sure everything matches up. And also the fact that the technology in the prequels seems advanced to the original three. Sure the argument could be made that we just didn’t have the ability for the special effects when the first three were made, but I still think some sort of effort to explain the difference or better integrate it should have been made.
Having said all that, I still like the Star Wars setting, and I think some interesting things could be done with new sets of characters and new storylines. I think a great example of this is the original X-Wing book quadrilogy by Michael A. Stackpole. I’m not sure how the series has gone on since the new author has taken it over, but the first four followed a new set of characters and they were very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed them. So I think there is still some possibility of more Star Wars goodness using new characters, at least in book form, as long as Lucas stays out of it.

ParticipantYou know whats funny. We bitch and complain about Star Wars, but yet we are in line to watch it. And no matter what Fanboy says, he can never be satisfied. People want Lucas out of Star Wars but he is the creator, his story.
Anakin whiny? And Luke wasn’t?! I agree with Bryan on show 93 (Star Wars show), Luke was weak in the force, up still to and after the end Jedi.
May 14, 2008 at 5:34 am #13316digitaltopia
ParticipantYes, I and others want Lucas out of Star Wars because even though he started it, when you look at what he’s done with it since then, and when you look at what other people have done with it since then, other people seem to do a much better job handling it than he these days.
And as far as fanyboys go, a fanboy would be happy with absolutely anything that dripped from Lucas’s taint as long as it said Star Wars on it. I know some people like that, that will defend anything Star Wars from any aspect of the universe, be it books, movies, or otherwise, no matter how blatantly bad it is, just because it’s Star Wars.
I, for one, will not be lining up to see the new Clone Wars movie.

Who do you think gave them permission to write Star Wars stories.

ParticipantI was under the impression that this was to be a new TV series not a major movie.
I’d rather have SW on the TV than another movie, the thing is I am not that interested in the Clone Wars as a story telling device anymore. Give us some character drama like BSG or something. But the story of a war that was just a plot device? Nah…I’ll watch it because Lucas dripped it off his taint, but I’m just so done with the whole clone war thing.
and Digi is right

ParticipantThis “movie” is basically the intro to the new series on Cartoon Network, right THX? I mean, wasn’t it originally going to be shown on TV, and they decided to do a theatrical release?
May 14, 2008 at 6:21 pm #13331Octavious
ParticipantI have seen George on TV or a YouTube video stating that this movie is what the fans (majority) wanted and then it goes to tv. Sept. 15th I believe. Then Sept. 18th is the Force Unleashed video game. (About time)
