I finally saw this and I fucking loved it. I didn’t take my neice and nephew to this one in the end because they’re only 5 and 3 and this film is a little too mature, maybe for 8 and up.
But it worked its beautiful, funny, whimsical and kind of melancholy magic on me a treat. And holy shitballs the effects are awesome in it, the way they intermeshed the practical with the CG is outstanding. The kid’s performance is also brilliant, the best child acting I’ve seen for years. It isn’t a film everyone will fall in love with like I did, there’s a lot of stuff that touched me personally about the kid’s situation and his journey, but I’m sure anyone could enjoy it a lot. Seriously, wonderfully magic.
nice. haven’t seen it yet. want to.

Boy, the theaters are really liberal in the land of Kiwis. I hope they keep the lights up a bit, so you can check to be sure that’s butter on your popcorn, and that they offer a shoe was by the exit door. Pretty sure you’d get kicked out of a theater here… but you never know. You could just complain about pedophile rights and they may let you slide (you see what I did there?!? I’m the fucking King!).
I’m sure I’ll see this movie, but I’m still just not excited about it. I expect good things from it still, I just don’t expect to be all excited and rubbing my crotch until it catches fire like ‘ole Bucho there.

ParticipantThat’s the right way to go into it because it’s not the type of film that’ll wow you so much while it’s going on like a Pixar film might, it’s not flashy and it’s not a kinetic rollercoaster adventure. The best way I might describe it is that if Pixar at their best craft films that transport you to the magic you felt as a kid watching movies, then Where The Wild Things are transports you to what it felt like as a kid living life and sometimes letting your imagination take you away from that life for a while when it hurt. It is still an epic kind of adventure, just a different kind.
Depending on how much you still remember with the way it used to feel as a kid when you were learning the world isn’t fair and doesn’t revolve around you, it’ll transport you, and when it’s over you might just sit back and go, “God damn, that Spike Jonze really is something else.”

I’m not sure any movie can do this for me Bucho, but I’m glad that it was so “magical” for you.

ParticipantMaybe not a duck then. Maybe a goose, or a hepatitis-stricken emu.
