You could always use the scientific method. Take one phone from each carrier and cover one side with butter, then stick them all on your body at once. The phone to fall off last gets your business.

Alright, my attention-span was sharp enough to finally read Bryan’s post, Rob’s post, and Bryan’s post to the post.

I got a lot of information out of that. I learned how to properly single out what is a no-capture zone (I’ve noticed those kinds of spots with other cellphones), that’s important. I’ve also taken from this, that the number of complaints I see can be relative to the number of subscribers. It’s like when you buy a video game or something, if you’re looking, then chances are you’re going to find the fifteen or so people who had an unpleasant experience, because they’re the ones who speak up. Meanwhile, the majority have little to no problem with their experience. That, and people tend to bitch more and over-exaggerate on the internet. It’s like the Xbox 360 repairs. I’ve had one system go bad on me, I could have turned against the product screaming ‘rape’. I took their free repair, and continue to appreciate the product. Others, not so much.

I also remembered that I’m looking for the multimedia functionality over the clearest cellphone dynamo available. Most important, I’m looking for the internet in my hand. The interface and internet functionality is what I’m looking for. The ability to look shit up on the internet, check email, instant message, and hopefully the ability to call numbers with a decent percentage of clarity. I wouldn’t have much use paying monthly for a straight-up cellphone, because I’d hardly use it. In fact, that’s why I don’t have one at the moment. I text message more than I bullshit during the day. I dropped the perspective that this needs to be a supreme iPod, and realized the functionality is exactly what I’d want in a cellphone. Bryan speaking decently on AT&T is a plus. Like I said, I’m not biased, but if it’s the only choice, I just want to know if it’s a decent service. That, and I don’t live in Philadelphia or L.A.

Bryan, I’ve heard you speaking about EDGE on the show before. It was something good if I remember. Correct me if I’m wrong.

EDGE is not a very new standard. Part of Apple’s agreement with AT&T is that it had to be brought up to date, and prepared to handle the influx of subscribers on that aging network. ‘3G’ is the good one, EDGE is the middle-ground.

Not to muddy the water too much more, but don’t totally rule out the Crackberry. The Pearl (and it’s newer siblings) are really damn good phones. I know Rob likes his Treo as well. They are pretty good at all of those things that you mentioned, just lack the ‘slick’ and the superior media player that is the iPod.

On a negative note about the iPod (even I believe there are some) the lack of buttons does have moments where it sucks. But I don’t care, even with it’s mediocre call quality, I still think it’s the best damn current phone on the planet.
