this had better be good
It seemed like he was saying that most people prefer the touch, so we should lose the classic and Nano altogether.

I’d go far enough to say you’re putting words in his mouth, especially about losing the other models completely. To his credit though, in his assumption, I must be in the minority, because I haven’t used one yet, so I can’t prefer the touch interface. I can only assume it’s an advancement from the clickwheel.
Wheel.. Wheel. Say ‘wheel’ a bunch of times. It’s weird… ‘Wheel’.

Ideally I’d have the shuffle, and the touch with all the storage capacities (4gb to 160gb). Maybe keep the Nano if a “mini” Touch would be ergonomically uncomfortable. I was really psyched for the Touch… but not having my complete library with me is a huge turn-off… regardless… Apple is doing it’s job (I guess…) so in the end I’ll be happy with my 160gb classic, and Paw Paw with his Touch and Mindy with her Nano and Fatty McFatfuck with his shuffle…I’d rather have a clickwheel. But whatever. :

ParticipantWait, Rusty would rather have a clickwheel? Come on, I can’t believe it. Why didn’t he say anything?

KeymasterI love the touch interface… I’m an iPhone user, so I’m now totally used to it. BUT, there are times (driving especially) when it wouldn’t be so bad to have some physical controls. I really like that both exist.
BTW: I think the new Nano is great. I bought a 4GB for my 14 year old over the weekend with my iPhone credit… it’s really slick. Sure the screen is small, but it’s good for passing a few minutes, or carrying around something you think is particularly funny for a few weeks.

ParticipantWell I’m probably gonna get some shit for this but I like the Zune a lot just for the controls… click up, click down, left and right… really simple… like a D-Pad… I love D-Pads… nice and easy… I get annoyed by the clickwheel sometimes when I get past something then go up and overshoot by one or two clicks, then down, so on and so forth… It just happens sometimes. (Exactly, like driving… I click 5 times down, I get to where I want, don’t even have to get my eyes off the road… with the clickwheel I have to pay attention as to where I’m at, not too cool.)
As for the Nano, I’m all for it… It serves it’s purpose… but I wonder if a Touch the size of the Nano would be feasible; if not keep it as it is.

KeymasterZune is poopy.

ParticipantI think they need to either —
1. Put the touch screen on the shuffle, or
2. Make the next iPod really big, like as big as a suitcase.

YOU WILL BE!

ParticipantSo, I got a stray-spoon up my ass today or something, because suddenly I want an iPhone. I guess I shed that belief that it needs to replace my iPod, and suddenly the clarity hit me that it offers exactly what I want in a phone. Boom, perspectives can shift just like that. So I’ll probably start saving up to get one.

ParticipantI’ll just cut out a picture and stick it over my Motorola.
Until they come out over here, then I’ll press my face against the shops window.
If it doesn’t work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.
