Version3
KeymasterThe monster “falling”? That would indicate it comes from above the water… or above the Eerf I guess. I dunno, I might look at those last frames if I get bored, but I really kinda hope a sequel for this movie just falls off of everyone’s plate. Even for those that like the movie a lot, a sequel is not likely to do as much for that audience, and only serves to do what Rusty said… fill in the holes. IMHO, a sequel won’t be able to pull of being as interesting to the same audience, because the unknown is what plays well for this movie, and it wouldn’t in a “all your questions will be answered” type sequel.
I just wish the Indy4 trailer would hurry the fuck up and finish downloading!

ParticipantIt’s an object falling into the water, but it’s not the monster. It’s widely believed to be a satellite owned by the Oil Company that owns the Slusho! Subsidiary.
Also, yes, during the credits, you hear rob say something. And played backwards, it says that “it’s still alive”.
And bry, you’re not making much sense. For a lot of the audience for the movie wants their questions answered, therefore, would like a sequel to explained those things that are unexplained.

ParticipantOn the other hand, I had 10 plus the last question, so 11 questions about the movie and I have no intentions on seeing the sequel. Although I did say I wasn’t going to see the damned thing in the first place and I did it anyway, so who knows what the fuck I’m going to do.
At least I’ve held true to my word and refuse to watch 2 girls, 1 cup. 🙂

I said most, not everyone.

Rusty, it’s perfectly fine that you like it and I don’t, or that Frank feels like he wasted his time. It will happen again and again. Even I like movies other people don’t like.
I’m making perfect sense; the things that attract many people to this movie will not be possible in a sequel, because it’s purpose is different, thereby not likely be well received by the intended audience. The model of “introduce a mystery and explain it in the sequel” has failed MUCH more often than succeeded, so it stands to reason that this is a very reasonable assumption for a Cloverfield sequel.

ParticipantOkay, that makes sense.
I’d still love to see a sequel.

ParticipantUm, yeah — I liked it. I give bonus points when a movie does one of two things — shows me something new, or shows me something I’ve seen before but in a wholly different way. Almost none of it made a lick of sense, but it was a cool ride. I really liked a lot of the composition of some of the shots — like Hud drops the camera to help out Rob, and you see them in the foreground, and F-18s passing overhead. Cool shot.
Also, cool little addition — one of the frames of digital “noise” is a frame from the original King Kong. Nice.
And I did see the thing drop in the water.

ParticipantSpoiled it for me.
Not that I’ve seen it at the flicks, or on DVD here yet.
One thing I’ve noticed about films that are released in US, if they fail there they don’t appear in the cinema here, they go straight to DVD.
If it doesn’t work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.

ParticipantPa-ul — do you mean we spoiled it for you? If so, sorry about that.

ParticipantSince I’m definitely not buying it on DVD, can someone tell me what it is that fell into the water? Maybe a screen cap, perhaps?
April 23, 2008 at 11:53 pm #13376rob
ParticipantThat wouldn’t be worth it. Something splashes like far off and since it’s the video from a month before you’re supposed to be like, “Ooh, that’s how it got here!” or something.

Apparently, although you will already know this, the film was really meant for the home audience.
Viewing the film as though it is being watched on a television from a camcorder.
