ParticipantAccording to the notices coming out of ComicCon this film is the Bee’s Knees Yo, maybe even the Badger’s Tits Dawg. This link is from CHUD, a piece by Devin Faraci, probably the best movie-site writer around, and I trust the shit out of his opinion. If he says District 9 is the shiz then there’s a 98% chance I’m going to cream myself over it.

KeymasterYeah, I’ve been reading the same thing. I don’t think the trailer is really telling people what to expect from the movie, it seems to be concentrating on the visual aspects. But then, I’m not sure how else you would do it with 60 seconds, and the need to just get butts in the seat first.
I’m looking forward to it.

ParticipantI had zero interest in this at first but I gotta admit this looks like it could be a great movie. Any idea on how long this could be? Can we trade in some time from King Kong and try to stretch this one out for a bit?

ParticipantIf you watched the Comicon interviews with PJ, etcetera, my dad cut all of the D9 stuff, so that’s basically why I ended up getting in and seeing stuff about the movie.
I can pretty much safely say that it looks really fucking good right now. My dad’s seen it and he’s essentially confirmed my expectations.

ParticipantHarry from aintitcool called it the movie of the year so far, and the best scifi movie of the decade. I’m pretty optimistic.

ParticipantI saw District 9 and I enjoyed the daylights out of it; my fears that the race allegory would be too on-the-nose were happily for naught. It’s a very, very solid film, tense, exhilarating, brilliantly paced and acted (even though the lead guy had never acted before), fantastic effects (the aliens are awesome, the main ones are genuine characters, and the weapons – fuck yeah), and best of all it sticks the ending magnificently. It’s 9/10 at least, a great, great action sci-fi film at least on the level of classics of the genre like Aliens and Terminator 2.
And Digi is only half joking.

KeymasterJust a fucking great movie. I need to go see this in a digital theater or something, because I’d like to see every bit of the effects… they looked so incredibly well done for any movie, but especially for a movie done for the budget this one was completed for.

ParticipantI ain’t seen the film yet.
But from the trailer I thought someone was poking fun at the South Africans, what with the colour thing.
Seeing signs that said ‘No Humans’, or ‘No Aliens’. Hmmm.
Although I’m probably just a warped minded bugger.
If it doesn’t work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.

KeymasterYou aren’t imagining things, there are definite parallels to the ways that humans have behaved in that part of the world, as well as nearly everywhere.

ParticipantThe people on the street in Alive In Joberg aren’t even actors, they’re genuine members of the public answering questions about Zimbabwean refugees.

KeymasterYeah, I read about that thing, and watched a few short bits about the making of this so called ‘test footage’ that was AIJ. Pretty cool stuff.
