ParticipantThe deal with the PS3 is Sony over-hyped and under-delivered. Almost every amazing promise that would sway me has turned out to be lies.
Remember how they were harping on 1080p being “true HD” and that they will only be able to deliver it? Well the fact is a minuscule amount of people actually have TVs that can even do 1080p and supposedly the differences are hard to see versus 1080i. Oh and Microsoft came out with a Dashboard update for 360 a few months ago and it does 1080p now, funny how that happened.
They also sang the praises of its superior hardware and this supposedly powerful “Cell” processor. Well word on the street is that its extremely overcomplicated to program for and not near as powerful, plus the actual GPU on the 360 is more powerful.
In addition to that the PS3 has only 256mb of RAM versus the 512mb in 360, developers are supposedly loving this and CliffyB ( developer and hypeman for Epic Games, who made Gears of War and the Unreal series) actually convinced Microsoft to go 512 versus 256, which ended up costing them 1 Billion dollars reportedly.
Now to what really matters, the games. At the end of day who gives two liquidy shits whats in the thing, games are what matter and right now 360 has them in spades. Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Oblivion, etc. Though the rebuttal might be the amazing Playstation exclusives: Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, etc. What people fail to realize is that exclusives are gonna be nonexistent soon. These games cost between $14-20 million to make now and the people who put the money up wanna see mo’ profit, hence the increase in price of next-gen (now current-gen) games. Hell, Metal Gear Solid might even be on 360 eventually do to it’s larger install base and the fact that it is a niche game that wont do well on a system that has a shitty launch. Oh and most of those top tier games don’t come out for another year at the very least.
I mean i could go on, but this has slowly become a Bryan (a rant, haha) and I need to stop, but don’t take Sony’s shit or sell your 1st and/or 2nd born for a PS3 on eBay. Go 360 and wait on Sony and their fanboy’s heads from their ass to get your next Playstation.

ParticipantI heartily agree with you, sir…
Especially after my hands-on time with the Wii (2-3 hours of gameplay), the 360 has now become the console to get in my opinion. It’s been said already, and probably better, but I will attempt anyway — the Wii is geared toward non-console playing people, like my wife. I don’t consider myself a hardcore gamer, but I will admit that I will waste hours upon hours on a game if it’s good enough. My wife really enjoyed playing, and I did as well, but the fact is, most of the time spent playing games is me, and I want a little more bang for my buck, especially in the graphics department, not to mention that the control, while VERY cool, will probably get old, especially when it comes to a first person shooter, which is typically my game type of choice.
It don’t matter, though. I’m trying to get a house and I think it would be irresponsible for me to spend $500 on a 360 and games. But it doesn’t stop me from hoping that my wife gives in…

ParticipantAs I post this, Rob has 666 posts. Coincidence? I think not!
Anyways, 360 is the best.

ParticipantWell… quite honestly… maybe the 360 is the best NOW…. but I think we may need a little more time to crown a winner in the console war… because… it began a week ago… Halo just wins in my book to be honest… but I need that MGS and Gran Turismo fix… gaming does that to you… and although exclusive titles are an endangered species… there will still be quite a few out there… sony and microsoft have enough dough to persuade anybody to make an exclusive… and their 1st party titles are OBVIOUSLY staying exclusive… I think it’s gonna come down to the developers who decide to rebel against the exclusives, and the hardware they feel most comfortable with… I don’t know if you guys remember but when the PS2 came out people going off about how it was difficult to program for it and shit… and well… look how it turned out… So it’s all going to come down to the GOOD games… for me Nintendo has the 2nd spot secured… who knows maybe even the 1st… but like the gamecube… I don’t think there’s going to be enough 3rd party support… I think all of us hardcores (rational hardcore gamers not fanboys) are going with the 360+Wii and maybe a PS3 when it gets ‘budget’ priced… the only people that are going to pick up the PS3 first will be the sony fanboys and the ‘specs nerds’ who have been convinced by Sony that they have the better hardware…

ParticipantI still feel like I made the right choice a year ago with the 360. Especially since the reviews are flooding in about the PS3 and even the Wii is getting some clunky reviews for controller issues (Like having a mirror in the room fucks with the calibration, also something else I heard about an online auto update that bricked the system).
A friend of mine told me he played the PS3 at one of those kiosk demo booths and he said he spent more time watching the loading screen than actually playing. Even then, people are saying there isn’t any noticeable visual difference. One shit-factor is that people are saying how wonderfully quieter the PS3 runs in comparison to the 360, but that’s because the Blu-Ray runs at 2x while the 360 runs at something like 12x. Enjoy the pretty loading screens. Most of the launch titles are games that I was already playing. Like Fight Night Round 3? Are you serious? I bought that game a year ago. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? Same thing. Oh, and what’s this I hear about Blu-Ray discs having the data burned to the surface? Cough hard enough on it and it won’t read anymore, am I wrong?
I also heard the PS3 smells like rape and whiskey when it’s on for more than 4 hours. Okay, so I made that part up. Seriously though, there’s nothing that I’ve seen that makes me say, “Ooh shit! Gotta get that system, too!”. Especially since Grand Theft Auto 4 isn’t going to be a Playstation exclusive this time.

ParticipantOkay, so……
….being the kind of guy that plays games when he
**wants to have some fun but yet not invest 15 hours of time to figure out**..when you consider the ps3 is brand new and games are not out yet. The 360 has been out for a year and has a bunch of titles out, which of these consoles is really a better value? I’m not so much interested in whichever system is more powerful or anything like that, but rather the types of games and how accessible they are to players in terms of coolness and the long forgotten factor of FUN..
….or do I just need to get one of them damn however the fuck you pronounce “Wii” things?
ANYWAY
..Happy Holidays even you vagrants that ain’t got no “Thanksgiven” in your foreign dang-ass countries. This means you too Newman.
…I’ve have no idea what they do where that Bucho fellow is from….I’m sure it involves some chickens and boobies…….Rob would probably love it

Bing, you might be interested to know that I was in the same boat you were in, say, 12 hours ago. The truth is — I’m no longer in the market for a next-gen console, because I bought an Xbox 360 today. I must say, after playing it for the last, oh, 5 hours or so, this thing is so the shit that I’ve almost blown hot liquid spunk into my whitie-tighties many times. Not only is the interface the shit, but the games are the shit. I rented the Lego Star Wars II game, and it’s so damn addicting. I’m going to be playing that as long as I can until I take it back to the BBV.
I’ve also purchased Gears of War, but haven’t actually played it yet. I’ve seen it played, and I know it’s the shit. The shit, the shit, the shit. I’m also very impressed with the upconverting of the old Xbox games. I tried Halo 2 and Star Wars Battlefront II and they look the shit as well. Even the remote’s the shit.
So basically, it’s pretty cool…
You know, the shit…
