KeymasterThat whole fucking series, along with popular vampire shit should die in a house fire. I hate it all.
Good morning fuck-faces. :p

ParticipantHah! Nice find Lark. I particularly enjoy how they chose shots where he won’t look her in the eye.

ParticipantEh, it ain’t bad. It’s just not any good. I think that’s why all this fervor gets on my nerves – if it was a good movie, but not my cup of tea, I think I could handle it. It’s just so damn…mediocre. Just nothing special at all. I think at this point, I wish it could die a fiery death, too, just so I don’t have to hear about it again.

ParticipantWait … I know you watched the first one Rob, but are you saying you saw the others too? Rob?

KeymasterFuck all of it. It needs to go away for a decade or two. Then, people who write about vampires, or make movies/shows about it won’t be doing it from this interpretation where they all treat it like a lifestyle. The thing that is wrong with it is that EVERY current look at these fabled creatures concentrates on romanticizing their existence and/or lifestyle, and I think that’s what annoys me about it all.
I don’t have a problem with any single person’s take on an idea, but this is one where creativity no longer exists. People really need to become fascinated with something else for a while, so that some vampire ideas can come out that do not stem from what else has been done in recent years (studio: we need a movie/show/whatever that’s like -generic-… that did really well), and does not come from a person’s fantasies of biting, alternative lifestyle and sex. It’s a done to death set of concepts. Move on uncreative fucks.
Vampires should be aliens. Really well thought out dormant alien colonization… and they should be scary blood siphoning monsters… that happen to be able to pass for people to some extent.

There is an anime series called Trinity Blood that is very close to this description. It’s pretty good if you’re into anime.

Participanthow long before Vampires don’t even need blood and just live on angst?
God Bless Max Shreck

KeymasterI bet if I watched that anime series it ends up being ‘that idea’ dragged kicking and screaming back toward every other vampire concept of recent decades, if not in the first season, then later.

ParticipantYou know, I largely agree with your assessment of the genre as a whole, but I was really surprised by Daybreakers. Ethan Hawke was really good in it. Good flick.

KeymasterDaybreakers is pretty decent, until about the halfway mark, when it degrades into meh. I liked some of the ideas, really liked how they were getting away from the expected then… nope, turns out we run out of shit to say, so let’s just put this is the box wrap it up and start ticket sales.
Unfortunate.
