ParticipantSo I had some rewards points and decided to use them. I ordered a DVD, a couple guitar cables, and a few other things. First, the DVD came and won’t work, so I have to send it back. The rest of the order was supposed to take almost a month to ship because apparently it’s hard for the website to get a hold of the cables I ordered. Then I got an e-mail today saying they couldn’t get the cables from the supplier and cancelled that part of my order. But because I paid with rewards points it’s unclear how that refund is going to work. I’m getting rather tired of ordering stuff online.

KeymasterI don’t like orders from Amazon that fill from third parties for this reason. But then, I rarely like to order online anyway. I’m an ‘instant gratification’ kinda guy… just ask Mrs Captain. 😮
Seriously though, I hate paying for something, then waiting for it. I want it when I’ve made the decision to get it… not 7-10 days later.

ParticipantI got burned as a kid buying stuff on mail order so now I just don’t trust the majority of people enough not to fuck it up either by incompetence or theft. I’ll buy Switched ON shirts because I trust those guys, but that’s about my limit.

I don’t mind buying used books from Amazon, that usually works pretty well. But in this instance, the cables’ page said they were sold by and shipped from Amazon.com, so I thought it was safe. Apparently they were selling them through, or getting them provided by, a third party without acknowledging it in the item’s page.
If they would just open a Guitar Center here in town I wouldn’t have to deal with any of this. We have a handful of local guitar shops and their prices are the same as the prices online, but they don’t have the selection.
Add to that the fact I’ve got the runs today instead of making magnificent man poo, and I’m just feeling disgruntled.

ParticipantStrange. I’m exactly the opposite. I order gobs and gobs of stuff online, and only have had one bad experience, and eBay refunded my money. So there you go.

ParticipantSome things I can only get online, or if the discount is good enough I’ll get something online too, but I’d really rather start getting more stuff locally.
The afore-mentioned guitar cables are going to have to be an exception. The local guitar store that I like carries the brand, but they’re all out of the length I want and it’ll probably be three weeks plus before they get more in because they have lots of other cables so they’re not placing a cable order anytime soon. And even if they did have them in, it’d end up costing me about $6 more to get it from them.
So with those I’m going to have to get them online. At least when I shop at Musician’s Friend I can still use cash through PayPal. I’m trying to get away from using my credit card.

KeymasterI should try to get away from using your credit card too… but it’s so damn convenient!

ParticipantSo get this, they credited my rewards points, but now my rewards points have gone back to showing zero again. And those cables they said they couldn’t get a hold of… now they say they have 10 in stock. However, there’s no indication that they re-placed the order for the cables with my rewards points, so I have no clue what they’re doing now.

ParticipantIn the on-going saga of this, it looks like the points I saw on my account from before were different points that simply hadn’t been used yet because one of the other items I ordered (some dice) hadn’t shipped yet. When the dice shipped, that reduced my point balance to zero. They said I should see the points from the cables return to my account within two business days.
I asked them about how first they said the cables weren’t available, and now they have 10. They said their supplier originally said they weren’t available, but then they got some in, and if I still wanted them I could place my order again and select one day shipping and they would refund me the shipping price, so I placed my order, sent them the order information, and they refunded the shipping right away.
I have to hand it to Amazon, they really bend over backwards with their customer service.

Participantcustomer service is high priority because they’ll get thrown into the river and become food for the piranha.

ParticipantDo they have a piran-o-meter sitting on their desks, counting down to swim time?
