ParticipantAny of you chaps checked out Reggie along with his buddy Scott Aukerman on Comedy Bang! Bang!? I have no idea how American TV works so not sure if IFC is a common channel in your homes and/or entertainment dens, but as a longtime fan of the CBB podcast it tears me up inside that I can’t watch the show. Unless I learn me how to pirate, which seems like work.
Anyway, they put a free ep on YouTube just to further increase my torment. It has an odd tone, but then a lot of modern LA-based comedy has that (even kid’s cartoons seem “alternative” to me these days) so maybe this odd tone is the new normal tone.
p.s. I don’t want any of your wise lip about how Sarah Silverman’s no damn good Bryan Castles. She’s an angel and that’s all there is to it.

ParticipantIt’s a little too weird for my taste, especially all the ladder stuff. My favorite part in the episode was the Reggie’s Day Off opener. The show does seem very Spongebob-y, right?
Hmm. Sarah Silverman. How do I state my opinion of her without pissing off Bucho? She’s got like a very strange bitchy cute thing going on, and I’ve seen her on Conan and stuff, and throughout everything I’ve been exposed to of her, I find about 5% funny.
I do get IFC, and I’m going to record the next few episodes to see if it works for me.

Yup. Shows like that, Adventure Time and Regular Show, even older stuff like Angry Beavers and Power Puff Girls … I haven’t seem a lot of kids cartoons for the last decade, but from what I have seen there’s a ton more chaos and anarchy in them than there was when we were kids and shit was a lot more linear. CBB doesn’t seem as chaotic and anarchic as something like Tim and Eric, but there’s definitely that element in there. There’s definitely some Peewee Herman influence too.

ParticipantYeah, weird for weird’s sake is typically not that good. Like I said though, Reggie with his thumb in the air and then throwing up was funny enough to stick around for the rest of the show.

ParticipantI haven’t seen a lot of Tim and Eric but that certainly seems like weird for weird’s sake. CBB seems like weird for comedy’s sake though. Every odd thing feels like a joke on something else – like the animated ladders being a riff on 70s children’s shows, or the earpiece scene being a riff on that old Cyrano de Bergerac thing (or maybe just on Roxanne). There’s method in the madness. Calculation in the chaos. Sarah Silverman’s thighs.
Wait … what were we talking about again?
