I just noticed something while watching The Two Towers. Typically, we as the audience see things from the point of view of the character being talked to. Strange thing happens when hobbits and men or elves occupy the same space on screen though – the point of view constantly changes. While Sam and Frodo are all by themselves (and when Gollum catches up), the camera is at eye level to the hobbits. When it’s Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, the camera is at the level of the taller members. There are many shots where Gimli is filmed from two feet above his head, to show that he’s a dwarf, even though John Rhys-Davies is rather tall. It’s interesting to see the changes throughout the movie. I wonder if subconsciously that’s why I feel a sort of detachment when watching these movies.

Come off it. That’s just not even human. EVERYBODY fantasises about fucking dwarves. Besides, I think the term dwarf is actually offensive. I think you’ll find the correct term is Diddymen.

I feel a similar detachment Robby, but I always put it down to not finding many of the main characters particularly engaging. Elijah Wood’s Frodo is the least interesting to me, but a lot of the time I’m not seeing kingly charisma in Viggo Mortenson either, even though I think that guy is great in other films. Like the moment he gives what it supposed to be his rousing battle speech falls almost completely flat for me instead of making me want to smash orc skulls.

    That only makes it hotter.
