KeymasterNow, I’m listening to this and I have a question for you guys. I’m critical of how badly I sing on these, so I always want to turn the music up a bit more… and don’t because that’s not a good reason.
But, would you prefer that these sound more “song like”, better leveled vocals and music, and maybe even a tad bit of polish to the sound of these parts of the show? In most cases it would just involve a bit more compression on voices for those parts, a little EQ work, and of course the music would come up quite a bit. A little reverb would finish off the ‘vocals’. Would this distract from the comedy, or would making it sound more complete (therefore funnier) improve your listening?

Participantinteresting question. personally i like the rough cut feel and the spontaneity of it all.
however, on certain gems of comedic songs like chicken in the butt or your hilarious dmv song that have a real sense of completion, i think a little post-production cleanup would really help them to stand out and raise them up a notch. just my .02¢.
wow, i just realized that “¢” is also on the “$” (“4”) key.

ParticipantLark is talking complete sense. Either that or we’re both crazy. I’m just trying to make the point that I agree with him.
Besides, the last thing you need is more work to do Captain.

KeymasterNo, that’s just it. I wouldn’t stop in the middle of the song game and apply “more” work to one song than the others. A) it’s work that I really don’t need and B) it would totally tell the listeners which songs to listen to, and which ones aren’t as strong. THAT would ruin the spontaneity. I’m not talking about writing lyrics (before the show) or doing post work on it that would change what we came up with… I’m just talking about a fuller sound. But if I did it, it would apply the the entire song game part of the show.

KeymasterNo I haven’t. The south ridge just isn’t safe anymore… not for a little sweetie pie like me.

ParticipantI guess the only way to tell if it’s better is to all dress up in bondage gear, rub yourselves down with pork fat and hit the fancy-pants sound button next time you’re song-gamin’ it. My instinct is that the raw, immediate feel of the way you guys have always done it aids the funny but we won’t know until the bondage gear and pork fat happens. And the fancy-pants sound.

I guffawed out loud at this. It put the image in my head of you saying it, all man-mountainish and scowling, and that made me want to make a film just so I can have you as one of the characters so you could say this line in it.

ParticipantHey you guys, what about how it only took 1:54 to get me laughing out loudly this show, when Bryan says that thing about how the chair makes his butt hurt: “… it hurts right on the hole.” I think that’s going to be one of those SOS things like, “I almost fell into the world,” that I can think of anytime and it’ll put a grin on my mug just because the phrasing is so sillygoose.
And what about at around 14:40 when Robby says, “Rob, every time you open your mouth I want to go to sleep … or put my dick in it.” Or when Jerry talks about giggling when you’re at the urinal at 16:26. Or Rob talking soon after that about when he was coming up with reindeer names at work and one of them was Slumlord. Fucking cracked me UP.
I still haven’t finished the show yet, I’m at about an hour forty, but some of the songs were brilliant to the max. I loved the John Connor trailers at 32:06 and 1:05:02. I enjoyed the shit out of the bear in the jungle songs at 33:34 and 55:20. The Small Town Mellancamp song from 59:27 is almost a dark masterpiece. And anytime the “I Like” song starts up my heart rises up like a pteradactyl into the glorious primordial skies, so at 49:00 my life gets all awesome and stuff. Dicks In Chickens at 1:37:44 and the Itchy Butthole at 1:21:24 lift me up where we belong.
The one that hurt my gut muscles into spasming cramps the baddest was at 37:43 when the futuristic Sonic Leash Company advertisement happens. It’s superb as a dream. “The great time has come when these micro-organisms can be tricked … you can harness them … and ride them … and you can harness them … and fuck them … and your organism, they will be chastised, and you can cheat them and do them wrong …” It’s lunacy of the highest order and should be saluted and given medals.

ParticipantI love it when you do that, Bucho. Not only does it put me in mind of your handsome visage when you post, but it gives us that feedback I crave. Also, it’s like having “best of” clips of the show.

KeymasterAgreed. Now just become very popular for something, and post these mini reviews everywhere so that other people will read them and flock to us.

ParticipantFrom the rest of the show I loved the one about fighting the French in 2012 (1:42:43) – Jerry seemed to want to get far away from dogs and skies and stores. Tacos And Whores (1:47:32) is classic SOS and I busted my guts open all over the place at My Butt Is Lumpy (1:53:06) and Meat In The Street (2:07:44). The Orange Lounge with lyrics was brilliant too, my favourite Orange Lounge ever.
