Version3
KeymasterSo last night, we were watching Ricky Gervais (Out of London 2), and he throws comments out a lot about religion and such… but at a point, he wanted to talk about a story from the Bible, and more specifically about a children’s book derived from the story of Noah. He’s doing his thing in there, and he makes a comment about how people believe whatever is in there.
Jessica is laughing at the jokes, and goes with something like “it’s totally true, everyone believes it, whoever wrote that has made a ‘tonna….
WE SHOULD DO THAT! WE SHOULD WRITE A BIBLE!”
I don’t like to paint up my wife as dumb (I don’t consider her dumb in the least, she’s usually smarter than her peers in most situations), but this was some funny shit to pick on her for… first I was laughing at her, then WITH her, then at her again. Told her I was posting this. “A Bible” is the part that got me going the most, like we can just write about whatever crazy shit we want and call it ‘a bible’ and it will sell like fucking… well THE Bible! Of course after that I moved back to the logic part of it and laughed at her some more.
This is one of those areas where I guess to others people can come off dumb. I happen to know that she has a natural resistance to learning a single detail about things she actively doesn’t give a shit about. History, and biblical history are high on this list… so it’s no surprise that she doesn’t even possess so-called common knowledge of it, she knowingly flushes stuff like that right out of her brain. –And once in a while, overcoming all of the frustration I feel when she doesn’t know something she should, it delivers a moment that has me crying from laughing, and posting this to you guys.

KeymasterWas it not that funny to anyone else then? Or are you guys afraid to tell me that her brain may be broken?

ParticipantSorry mate, when it comes to matters of mixing religion with comedy, I take a wide berth. Same with mixing politics with comedy.

ParticipantI think it’d pretty hilarious, especially being familiar with her voice and imagining how she probably said it.

ParticipantTopes — to me, the best comedians talk about LIFE. And that includes everything. I think if you don’t offend somebody from time to time, you’re probably not that great of a comedian, but that’s just my opinion.
So, mini-rant off, I thought this was hilarious. I guess when you take everything with a grain of salt like I do, not offensive at all, just frickin’ funny.

KeymasterRobby, you have high blood pressure… and with all of that salt intake, it’s not hard at all to see why!

I agree to an extent, but when comedians start talking about religion or politics in divisive ways, say rather than just in a general context, I just don’t find it funny. You really don’t find it happening with religion too much, but a lot of comedians these days seem to love to push their own political agendas through their comedy. They’re not simply making jokes about the nature of politics in general, they’re trying to push their specific agenda through their comedy. As I’ve said in the past, if I want politics, I’ll go watch politics.

ParticipantIn other words, get a video camera and act it out. And post the video. Now. Wearing Batman costumes.
