Well more accurately I went flying in a small-ass side by side ultra-lite.
One of my aunt and uncles built their own airplane over the last few years. They flew from Arden, Ontario to Fort Frances, Ontario over about 6 days, stopping to visit friends and family on the way.
Video of my short flight while they were in town, well the first 9 minutes of it, take off is around 1:30 and over my house is at 7:00, the rest is mostly the cockpit/dashboard/my arm:

Fuck me!! I built an Ikea set of drawers once and thought that was good….but a whole plane!! I bet the instruction leaflet were a bugger!!
….and those left over nuts and screws could prove troublesome too.
BIG JOBBIESNice! You have a cool unc and aunt Newman. I took a wee hop in a four seater a little while back but it certainly wasn’t as adventurous as this one. It also reminds me of Jerry flying with his buddy (Chris?) when they found those weird mystery pylon things from the X Files. Or something.
For the vid I muted the audio and put on the Top Gun soundtrack. Danger Zone kept skipping so I moved it on to Playing With The Boys instead.

Looking at Newman’s photos makes me wish I lived futher out of the damn suburbs where I could have some land around me. Not that I don’t have good neighbours, I just like a bunch of grass and trees and woodchucks all around the place.

Speaking of Top Gun, it seems like that movie is everywhere lately – my favourite MMA podcast uses the theme as their outro – the film’s being converted for 3D – the blue ray is just released – our pets heads are falling off!
There’s a lot about the film that’s goofy now and has been something of a punchline for almost two decades but it still looks pretty awesome, especially the hardware*, filmed at magic hour with jetwash for africa**.
* By which I mean Rick Rossovich’s abs, AM I RIGHT FELLAS?!?!

It was actually pretty windy when we went up compared to when Stu took my mom up earlier that day. It was also the strongest cross wind that he has landed in so far. While the turbulence wasn’t fun the whole flight was really cool and gave a completely different perspective on things.
I had though a few days ago when I heard I was going to be able to take a flight that I was going to put it to a Top Gun song but then figured we had enough of those.
I know all the Top Gun songs are up there but YouTube is weird about copyrighted material. Better to stick to open source or whatever it’s called, or maybe it’s even better with nothing at all and the viewer can choose their own soundtrack.
