ParticipantThere’s a lot of people who disagree with the decision, myself included. Just because you swing a lot doesn’t mean you won. I mean, look at his FACE! He just got seriously owned.
Sure, Kampmann wasn’t as aggressive, but he landed more punches and did more damage. I think that aggression can win a fight if there’s no action, but there was plenty there for the judges to focus on, but that’s just me.
And the Penn/Fitch fight pissed me off. Fitch sucks, plain and simple. There’s a reason his nickname is “The Decision” – he hasn’t finished a fight since 2007. Part of being in the UFC is being exciting, doing things that are unexpected. Guys who do nothing but score points have no place there.

ParticipantI finally did see Kampmann and Sanchez and I’m a Kampmann fan but I have to say that without factoring in what Diego looked like afterward it was very even to me. Even enough to have gone either way anyway. But yeah, seeing how much damage they each relatively delivered Kampmann was easily the winner. Unless you count Diego’s clever headbutt to break Kampmann’s hand in the last round, then maybe they’re even.
And yeah Fitch is frustrating. I can’t blame him though, he used to have a more open style but the taste of defeat made him a lot more disciplined at sticking to his strengths and poor old BJ was just too small to hang with him.
And how about Jonny Bones Jones being heavy favourite for the weekend? I know he’s a sharp, sharp dude and very popular but he’s never faced a fighter as skilled or tough as Shogun. I think he definitely has the weapons to beat a Shogun who’s coming off a long post-surgery layoff, and Jones is in the zone having rolled Bader very recently, but to have him as favourite has suprised me quite a bit.
Should be a good battle though. Looking forward to the bantamweight action too, those little dudes are like frikken Tasmanian Devils.

ParticipantAs if the hype wasn’t enough, now Jon Jones is apparently some kind of real life superhero.

ParticipantYeah, that’s pretty damn amazing. Fight’s coming up, and it scares me how cocky he’s been, signing autographs this week “2011 World Champion”. Shogun’s no slouch, and I hope Bones can keep his head on straight, because he could be a star.

ParticipantOkay. Just wow.

ParticipantYeah, Shogun looked as sloppy as he did the last time he came back from a long recovery layoff but I don’t know if even at 100% he could have beat Jon Jones tonight. The boy is smart, hungry and longer than three green anacondas taped together. The size difference was ludicrous. Fun to hear the boos for Rashad afterward too, having the team mates face off is an interesting little story all of its own.
Brendan Shaub earned himself some extra pocket money with that sweet knockout of Cro Cop too. Just as well because Cro Cop was beating him until then.

Participantman, what a show.
the way cro cop hit the mat was cringe-worthy.
and did you guys notice that hua actually tapped? i rewound it to make sure but after the last knee to the body from jones, hua went to the ground and herb immediately rushed in to grab jones. jones doesn’t get any more shots in but simultaneously as herb is grabbing jones, hua clearly taps the map twice.
jones put on a great show but hua was definitely rusty. can’t wait to see jones vs evans.

His name’s “Rua” Lark. Us brasileiros pronounce the “R” as “H” when it’s the first letter in the word. In English his name would be Maurice Road, which is nowhere near as exotic sounding, so just as well he has a badass nickname to go with it.
And yeah, he definitely tapped and I don’t blame him one bit. I thought that big cracking noise from Jones smashing him in the face on the ground about 8 seconds earlier was his jaw breaking so I’m not surprised.
It was so awkward seeing Rashad and Jones in the ring together afterward. Jones huge and sweaty, sporting his new gold, Rashad small, sharp dressed, pissed off. They wouldn’t meet each other’s eyes.

ParticipantMan, fuck Rashad Evans. He ain’t got a chance. And he stinks of money – just doesn’t seem like a pure sportsman, if that makes any sense. I can’t stand him.
The thing is – look at the division. Nobody even comes close to Bones. To me, instead of doing the GSP/Silva fight, they ought to do Bones/Silva. I think Silva’s the only one who has a chance against Bones.

ParticipantYeah, Rashad is fun to hate on but I think he’ll at least come in better prepared than Shogun did. The only time Rashad hasn’t come in like a pro was when he made the tactical mistake of standing with Lyoto. The lesson he learned about underestimation from that, along with the fact he knows Jones better than any other guy at 205, will see him at least enter the cage with his head screwed on right and a solid game plan.
You’re probably right though Robby, knowing the path is one thing, but walking it is something else, especially when it involves tangling with a super-talented guy who’s 5 inches taller and outreaches you by 10. I wouldn’t be too surprised if a lot of guys at 205 are starting to find 185 more inviting, although I’d love to see Jones fight Lyoto, who maybe has the best footwork of anyone to deal with that crazy reach.
And Jones really seems to have modelled his standup after Anderson in a lot of ways, with those wicked spoiling teeps and low side kicks, except that Jones doesn’t wait around to counter, he plows straight in with flying knees and spinning elbows. The size difference would still be significant but Anderson’s probably the guy with the timing, elusiveness and accuracy to have the best chance of testing Jones’ chin. Thing is, even if he does out-strike Jones the new kid has a mean ground game to fall back on too. I’d love to see that fight too. I’d love it like the wind.

you know what’s funny? i know that (been a fan of royce gracie for years) and have called people on it as well and could have sworn i typed “rua”.
i guess hearing “hua” in my head as i typed it is what did it.

ParticipantDo you guys follow any of the other organizations outside UFC?
Cause check out this nifty little move from a Bellator fight last week. I’ve seen it done before but only by a lightweight. Something about this 6’4″ 205er pulling it off makes it even funner to me.

ParticipantWow. That was nice.
Honestly, I keep forgetting about the Bellator fights. I don’t mind watching people I’ve never heard of fight, because a lot of times they’re more exciting.

Participanti’ve never seen someone pull that off before.
i’m definitely not a ufc snob. the guys that fight for little money and low exposure are the up-and-comers with that fire inside that you want to see.
