ParticipantI’m pretty sure Rob and Lark have mentioned following the UFC, and lets be honest, even people who don’t follow that sport love Steven Seagal with the fire of a thousand suns. So this little video is entertaining for the whole family.

Participantwow, i remember watching seagal movies when i was a kid. he’s like the energizer bunny.
saw lyoto vs. rampage last night. rampage being so aggro in the first round saved him. the second round was his but the third round was clearly machida’s.

Keymasterpeople who really think the old guy isn’t super McFucking badass are just lost. I just like seeing the guy work. I wonder if he’s less egotistical these days… when I was younger I always thought he’d be great to hang out with. Bruce Lee was busy being already dead at the time, and Norris was just silly to me.

ParticipantSeagal is almost like a David Hasselhoff or William Shatner type character in that he’s kind of a punchline (no pun), but seeing him doing shit like this, which he obviously has so much passion and skill for, is kind of endearing even if he does seem like something of a blowhard telling a former champ how to do his job. I mean, the stories from his private life make him seem like a raging asshole, but even though his career’s gone downhill he’s actually still massively charismatic on screen. This makes me want to check out his reality Sheriff show.
Apart from that dumb homophobic comment Rampage made a while ago I like him and his big mouth and I’m happy to see him succeeding in the ring because it’s good for the game in a promotional sense. He’s pretty one dimensional in the cage, but when he’s effective he’s super effective in the most entertaining way.
I like Machida because he’s so different from almost all the other fighters in MMA with that long range, very mobile karate style of his. Also because he’s from a place which is very close to my heart, up there in Belem in the Amazon.
The bummer about yesterday’s match was it was only 3 rounds. It was a good tense battle but over too quick. Same could maybe be said for BJ vs Hughes I guess. But I was stoked to hear Rampage offer the rematch immediately. And hopefully the winner of that fights the winner of Rashad vs Shogun.

Yeah, his genuine passion for the art is very apparent, and he’s so experienced you’d be a fool to underestimate him.

i want to punch bj penn in the face.

ParticipantHaha, yeah BJ is a very polarising dude. I find him very entertaining myself. I have the image of Matt Hughes standing there with that puzzled look on his face mouthing, “What happened?” playing over and over in my head too.
I had the Rampage/Lyoto fight 10-10, 9-10, 10-8 to Machida (Quinton was on the front foot in the first round but landed nothing), and that close split decision demands a rematch.

ParticipantI scored the fight the same way the judges did — neither one really did any damage in the first two rounds, but Rampage had octagon control and was the aggressor, so even though he lost the third round pretty decisively it was still 2 rounds to one.
I don’t really know what to make of BJ Penn. I thought he was pretty awesome until those two fights with Frankie Edgar — the dude just didn’t show any fire. He pissed me off so bad after that second fight, I thought he was done. And then he comes out Saturday like a man possessed, and it was frickin’ awesome, so I don’t know what to think about him now.
I like Machida okay, but I think that he fights too much like Anderson Silva — they wait for the other to make a move, and that makes for really unexciting fights. It’s strange that when Silva becomes aggressive, he’s unstoppable, and that’s fun to watch, but his last two fights didn’t really show what he’s really capable of. Machida can really be exciting, and I expected him to come out all crazy, but he was really laid back until the third round.
Now Steven Seagal — I’ve warmed up to him, cheesy movies aside, because as you’ve all said, he really knows his stuff. In Machete, you could really tell by his stance that he knows what he’s doing, and that’s impressive. I would have liked to see Lyota fight that way Saturday night!

Participantcompletely agree about silva, rob.
agree with both of you about the jackson fight. the only thing that saved rampage was his first round aggression.

KeymasterI hate UFC and similar… have for years now. I like it the way it was for the first 6 or 8 times out. After that, it because heavyweight boxing meets the WWF. I’m out.

I think a lot of people feel that way about Machida. A brawler like Lidell or Rampage makes a big noise and that’s fun to see. For me though, there’s enough drama and tension in Machida’s evasive maneuvers that I don’t find it unexciting. Especially against a guy with Rampage’s power, where you know one connection can mean sleepy time. I find myself identifying with Machida, because he’s doing what I’d do, and so I’m scared he’s going to get hit like I’d be scared of getting caught myself, and that’s where the thrill of that style comes from for me.
Of course, it was fucking great when he shifted gears in the third too. The way the scoring works he usually has to come forward eventually, and he has some nice weapons for when it’s time to fuck shit up.

ParticipantAre you guys up for Koschek taking another swing at GSP? GSP is such a great pro and Koschek is such a great, entertaining, shit-talking yapper and it’s in Montreal. I can’t wait.

i’m looking forward to it. i believe koschek is actually a punk and not just a victim of reality TV production bias.
i want GSP to knock his block off.

ParticipantOh, I’m ready. I actually used to like Koscheck until this year on TUF. He’s just a dick, and I want him to be utterly destroyed.

Participantafter further consideration, i wish i had chosen to use “give him the business” instead of “knock his block off”.
