Sally Menke died yesterday, apparently while hiking with her dog during this crazy heatwave LA is having. She was Quentin Tarantino’s editor, on every one of his films, and was a very important part of the creation of some movies we’ve loved.

Here are a couple of vids, one of QT talking about the vital part she played in the creative process of his films cut with some Hi Sallys from Death Proof, and another of the Hi Sallys from Basterds. (QT used to have people say hi to her at the ends of some takes, so that when she was alone in the studio she wouldn’t feel lonely.)

that’s pretty cool. not the part where she dies but the other parts. she was definitely good at her craft.

that’s why i don’t go outside. nature is dangerous and can kill you.

Yeah, I find that incredibly sad. I just wonder what effect it will have on Quentin. Someone that’s been there every step of the way and is suddenly gone has got to have an amazing impact.

    But yeah, it’s a tragedy.

It really is stupid that the heat can kill an *otherwise* healthy person. Me, I live in the hot soup of the south and just ask Lark, wet damp heat is the worst heat of all.
