ParticipantWell, my thinking was that I would wait to put this out until the last show died down, but then…I forgot. Don’t get too excited though – the first is all about Alien: Covenant, and the second is reviewing the last four Star Wars books I’ve read, amounting to a little over an hour worth of material. So, you know…maybe it’s good?

Participant100% with you that monsters are more menacing when you don’t have their backstory spelled out. The xenomorph, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter …
I remember watching The Dark Knight for the first time and hearing The Joker tell his origin story and being all, “Awwwww, why’d you have to go and fuck it all up like that Nolan?” And then, of course, there’s that other origin story and me being all, “Ahhhhh, fuck yeah Nolan, you dirty dog, you done did it right.”
I also agree with you that Fassbender is the best. If you can find it, you should watch a movie called Fish Tank. He’s only a support player, but it’s a really sharp little film and he’s hyperbolically amazing to the max in it.

ParticipantYep, Dark Knight played out really nice. Just genius, actually.
It’s been a week later, and I’m still not really sure what to make of A:C. I know I like it, I just don’t think I can love it. It’ll be interesting (probably only to me) how Prometheus plays with this new knowledge.
May go without saying with all of my past rankings, but I actually think that seeing Clone Wars added another layer to Vader, especially at the end with Luke and ol’ wrinkly balls.

ParticipantCan’t wait to see if there’s Bloodline easter eggs in The Last Jedi; Rian Johnson gave Claudia Gray some story elements.

ParticipantI’ve been thinking about that – like, Rogue One is a bit better after reading Catalyst, except that Jyn’s mom was way out of character with her sacrifice. I’m sure there will be some in Phasma, right?

As in we promoted Phasma to be this bad ass in Awakens, but was under used. They have to definitely redeem her in The Last Jedi.

ParticipantYeah, I was talking about the Phasma book coming out this coming Friday. There’s a Leia book, too, but I think that’s a “young adult” book. Of course, Lost Stars was, too, and it was sweet like candy.
