I didn’t see a thread here for this, so I thought I would start one. I just watched the trailer. Looks pretty good. The ED-209 looks really cool.

That link is busted up for me Jerry, almost as if it has 4th degree burns to 80% of its body.

This one should work though –

    Here’s the nother one.

I like it. The suit design with the way-too-sinister “eyes” seems kind of dumb but everything else looks pretty great. And you just can’t go wrong with Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman. The trick is probably going to be how much ability you have to watch it as a fresh thing vs how much you can’t help but compare it to the original, which, ironically, still holds up beautifully all these years later.

Unfortunately, I think the new spot makes the movie look terrible. I really don’t want bad CGIcop, but that last shit proves that not only are we gonna get it, but they are proud of it. There is so much going on that of course I hope that some cool action and modernization overcomes the visuals, but the trailer makes me think we are going to get 2 acts of RoboOrigin, and a rushed 3rd where we try to cram in the villian, the humanity, and the setup for a sequel. One of the things that already bothers the shit out of me is the weak tie-me with the original, that aren’t thought out; reall ED-208 is a production Humanoid model, and the very next model makes it all the way to production and is totally different? Anyone know any manufucturer on Earth that works this way? Of course not. Weak writing and dim ideas made someone say, ooooh, people will know what we are doing, and will understand what’s going on from the original if we show the model right before the 209 that they all know. It shows terrible judgement, and if I can see dumb so plainly in the trailers, imagine how dizzy I’m going to get rolling my eyes at 100 min of this kind of stuff. To me, seeing these kinds of things so early make me doubtful that Keaton, Oldman —not even Jackson can bring this above an “meh” status for me. I do like how RoboCop looks, but I can’t really just look forward to how this movie looks.

Damn, my eyes must be failing because you’re not the first person I’ve seen diss the CGI, whereas to me it looks comparable to anything in Avengers or Iron Man 3. And I can’t not look at this without Iron Man being in my brain too. Or maybe I just like that last shot because it finally shows him in the grey suit.

Are you talking about the difference between the EM-208 and the ED-209? Or between the EM-208 humanoid drones and RoboCop? If it’s the latter it seems to be explained by Michael Keaton’s “Make him more human” thing. If it’s the former, maybe the 208/209 thing is confusing but the ED/EM thing makes me not see them as concurrent models.

I thought they said ED-208, so my point may be less valid. But not totally invalidated, it still has an annoyingly close model number that seems unrealistic.

I liked seeing him in the silver/grey, it’s the jump down that looks so completely terrible. I’d say the CGI looks good at pixel level, the physics look off on a lot off things. The jump off the wall, the motorcycle jump onto ED-209… These fucking things are insane heavy and fall like they are plastic —or CG. I have this problem with a ton of movies… Even The Avengers. That movie has a lot going for it, so far RoboSlop doesn’t seem to be quite there.

The reason I love the original is because I’m a makeup and practical effects nut. I love the extreme violence like when Kinney and Murphy get shot the hell up. There’s not going to be any of this in the new one.

I also love the original because the story is actually pretty well done. The acting isn’t great, but the story is there. I don’t know if this one’s going to have that. I loved Clarence Boddicker. “Bitches leave!” “Look at my face, Dick!” “I don’t wanna fuck with you, Sal.” Ain’t gonna have that, either.

It just has so many things that I say, “Why?” I have a feeling that I’m going to feel about the same after I watched Transformers.

Yeah, best thing for me about the original is how masterfully paced and funny it is, with a perfect sense of satire. Verhoeven was right up there with James Cameron as a top notch B-Movie maker back then, better even in some respects. Today’s filmmakers should study that shit and learn how to make great action movies in under two hours.
