KeymasterI too think this one is better, and you landed right on the bright circley part of the target. Well done sir.

ParticipantHaven’t seen it yet. I think doing a “classic” review to test is a good idea.

Sweet. And don’t put any pressure on yourself to nail a perfect finished product right out the gate either. As soon as you start doing that it won’t be fun, and the whole point will be lost. Just start taking the steps and the journey will take care of itself.
That sounds like something Greg Jackson would say, right?

ParticipantI had a run at Elysium. Not too impressed with my performance on this one but I at least got her done which was kind of a test in itself.
Here’s the short version for the busy modern mum/mom.

ParticipantFun review. See, maybe you stick to the reviews, I stick to being weird or whatever. I dunno. I need to get my ass in gear and finish the review I did.

KeymasterI too I am enjoying them quite a bit.
The short version of this one works pretty well, so other than the cuts that rush your natural speaking rhythm, it works pretty well. You are probably making more of your points than mine. We’ll see when Rob starts publishing these suckers.
That said, I still like watching the longer ones, but that’s because I want to be entertained, and you are an entertaining fucker. It does feel like you are just driving around to be in the car… where are you going in this?

Appreciate the feedback as always Captain but I don’t get what you mean with this sentence. Is it some kind of a test I must solve to gain new powers?

I was heading down south to pick up a drain grate from Marley rainwater systems. I actually have footage of me being at the wrong gate when I arrived and having to drive around an entire block (approximately 7,439 miles) to find the right one, but it didn’t make the cut.

ParticipantTook another shot at ELYSIUM. Still not as good as I want to do it, but better than the first one I reckon.

ParticipantSee, that’s what I’m saying, Bucho. I don’t think I can do it as well as you can. You’ve got this thing down.
One thing I just flat out refuse to do when I do these is summarize the movie. When I read a review, I don’t care about the summary – the only reason I read it is because I’m already interested in the movie because I’ve seen the trailer. I think that unless it’s a review show like At The Movies, you’re clicking a review because you’re interested to a) hear another’s take on it or b) hear if it’s any good. Does that make any sense? At this point, I’m not interested in pleasing the masses, I’m interested in pleasing myself, in a not-touching-my-own-dick kinda way.

ParticipantYeah, I’ve toyed with leaving the movie intros in or out and still haven’t come down on one side or the other. I do skip that stuff when I read reviews but in a video show, like At The Movies, I enjoy them. If I keep doing intros like that I’m going to try to make them funnier, so they at least feel fresh.
As for what you want to do, I just want for you to be able to do something professionally which makes you happy. If doing this ain’t it then this ain’t it. Not that this is any kind of guaranteed path anyway, so if your heart’s not in it there’s no point.

KeymasterFor me… This one felt over-thought. It has the feel like you listened to and analyzed your other one, then tried to fit every less than superficial though you had about it. For me, it’s weird because you are driving. The idea of driving and talking should feel a bit more conversational and from the hip. I like the idea that what you are saying is what you think, and not ‘what you want to say’. It’s a subtle difference, and I don’t know that I’d have been able to see it if I hadn’t seen both of these. I’m with Rob, I could totally do without the summary. Seems like some of the comedy/fun you had explaining would fit just as well during the rest of the review where relevant.
What I liked: You spent much more time on Damon’s performance, or maybe that you just did a better job of letting me know what to expect. Same to a degree with Foster. I like you enthusiasm about the characters you loved and the scene stealing in the first version. I also love the little weird clip at the end with the eyeballs. That’s good stuff, and a popular format (cutting back to something notable, funny or stand-out or even a blooper at the end).
The short version of this is, the way you go about explaining it this time feels like you’ve complicated what you want to say just a touch. It makes it a bit confusing to be in the car with your ‘old buddy Bucho have him telling you about it in friendly terms, then get to the heart of it thought out and bounce back to funny. It’s almost like you are talking to more than one audience.
I guess that wasn’t THAT much shorter.
