Version3
KeymasterI know that Jerry like to quote Coburn once in a while (“That’s just mean!”), and I’m sure how many of you like this movie… but for those that do, have you seen the Director’s Cut?
I’m all for adding footage back in, changing edits for pacing that the Director needs for his vision and all that. I even like to see the “alternate ending” or “alternate opening” sequence for it’s swifter close, or lengthened end and all that.
Anyway, I’m watching this one, and I don’t see really anything that’s different for a long time. Then I notice one thing that’s very notably different, and start to see what seems to be some new sequences added in from Carter to Fairfax to the top of the Outfit. Turns out, this is a totally different movie all of a sudden. I like the regular one better, but there were a few things in here I liked. I just thought we were taking a detour for a bit.
So have any of you seen this version?

ParticipantI have seen it, and I actually liked it better. I have only seen each version once, but I remember the original to be uneven, and enjoyed the flow of the new version better.
I won’t be able to discuss it in super-detail, because it’s been a while since I’ve seen either, but there you go…

KeymasterI have a feeling I’d have to watch the first one again, but I did enjoy this one. Problem is I was constantly expecting something different so when this change in events wasn’t just ‘more bad guys to get through’, I was kinda like… “Oh!, well okay… fuck, really?” And although I’m a fan of Kris Kristopherson’s same damn guy character, the showdown with him is kinda stupid, so I’m happy to be rid of that one. Funny how expectation makes it harder to form an opinion of a movie.

ParticipantI’ve haven’t seen either version yet but I will, I swear it on Lark’s life. I just have my Gummi Bears box set to get through first.

Participanti watched it and liked it. but to be honest i hadn’t seen the original since it came out. so really the only difference that stood out to me was the ending.
bucho, i will shoot your mother’s son if you don’t watch at least one version of this before you die.

ParticipantMy mother’s son is impervious to your pitiful guns. Instead, you will require an elaborate conglomeration of pvc tubing, ropes, glass cleaner and baby koalas hooked up to an off-grid 3,000,000 GW sub-marine treadmill powered by the faded dreams of Bulgarian opera singers who never quite made it and now work as fluffers for elephant porn.
Or I could just watch it.

KeymasterI don’t think I was that clear above… the end is really all that is different. I just kept assuming I was seeing an extended sequence of secondary baddies, so the climax felt a bit weak. Also, the rush of quoted bits and imagery from the last 1hr 20min was annoying. That always is.
