ParticipantAssuming the roads are good doing 80mph doesn’t seems so bad. But I haven’t had a vehicle above that speed that I can recall. The hubby’s ’13 Chevy Sonic Hatchback w/ a turbo is sure easy to get up to those speeds though. Kevin always gives me shit for rapid acceleration. I fucking love it.

Keymaster80 isn’t a big deal at all, and all I have to do is whisper at my pedal and the Challenger will jump from 80 to 100 nearly instantly. The problem isn’t really the road, it’s the other humans full of stupid in far less capable vehicles that cause the biggest problems. Well that, and even good roads have bad spots in the seemingly worst places.

ParticipantThe point at which one must take extra care is upon reaching 88mph.

ParticipantStrangely, I saw these weird police trucks a few days before that. They were marked up with “Commercial Traffic Enforcement” or something similar, and were yanking big trucks off the road. I guess we just have big budget for cops here, and they need some shit to do.
We have something similar.
Police and Transport inspectors pull trucks over and ask them to follow them to a test centre.
They are then fully checked over, tyre tread levels, emissions, if too much weight is being carried, type of fuel being used (red or white diesel, red is for agricultural use only), if the driver has gone over his daily 8 hours from his tachograph, and so on.
If they find any faults, the truck is seized and the driver has make alternative arrangements.
If it doesn’t work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.

ParticipantThey also check to see whether the truck’s monkey mascot is well looked after.

KeymasterPaul! Well, damn boy!
I haven’t read back on what I wrote, but I think what stuck me weird about it was the speciality vehicles for it. Our state troopers handle all of the same work, these were just purpose marked like no others I’d seen before.
Texas has more law enforcement than it knows what to do with anyway. We have municipal police (city), we have county policy (Sherif’s/Sherif Deputies), we have Constables (another division of County, largely in support roles, but not exclusively), we have state police, then we have Texas Rangers. It’s kinda weird actually. –and none of those include the various types of feds.
