ParticipantI’m still on the fuck’em both till I can get them in Divx/xVid.

KeymasterI’ll wait until I see a real source-to-source comparison, as there are still a number of differences between the two that come well before disc encoding. How about like the quality of the codecs (which are different in the case of these movies) and the hardware doing the work? The discs weren’t written on the same machine. I’ll just be happy with a standard quite honestly. -That, and the ability to store 50+ GB on a single disc. π
Imagine that, all of my porn on just 20 discs. π

ParticipantYour totally right guys! Regular DVD’s are prefectly fine for us ‘regulars’.
Just think the whole internet on only 1,000 disks π

ParticipantI’ve been following this format war for a long time, so I know more than the average joe. The truth is, it took a firmware update to the HD-DVD players to get them to where they are now, so I am waiting for Blu-Ray to catch up, since it hasn’t been out as long. Secondly, just like any new game system, it will take a while for the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray producers to really maximize the capabilities and storage of each. It should get markedly better on both sides.
The fact is, spec by spec, Blu-Ray is superior. It might take them a little while to catch up, but with the PS3 having Blu-Ray built in, they will absolutely kill HD-DVD in my opinion, just in an almost sure-thing type installed base. It’s still useless to me at this point to buy either, because again, just like any new game system, it’s the software that matters. There’s not one title on either format I just have to have, so until then, I’m waiting.
So yeah, there’s my .02.

ParticipantJust wait.
They will both end up being dumped.
In favour of Betamax π
If it doesnβt work, jam a screwdriver in there and jiggle it about.

ParticipantI’m still skeptical all together. Sony’s UMD’s ring a bell anyone?

ParticipantKinda funny — Betamax was the superior format when VHS came out, so look at how that whole thing turned out.

The Disc and Tape formats are going to be obsolete, in favour of a plug in card (like a pen drive) but with a huge capacity.
It’s the way of technology, short of having a hole drilled in your head and having a direct to brain feed. But that’s probable in the the furure as well. π

KeymasterBetamax was kick ass. Marketing is everything. Blu-Ray probably will do best because of that. With Sony and Apple fully committted to that, PC retailers will try to do both so it’s up the studios to try to overpower Sony… who isn’t just a studio. Good Luck. π

ParticipantThat’s…um…a lot of porn.
I find I don’t need that much. I collect a bunch, then delete it.

ParticipantI usually can delete it after five minutes. Or ten if I’m really backed up.

ParticipantI’m worried that somehow when the drives are released there is going to be some handicap where I can’t do this or that, then i’ll be pissed.
