ParticipantYou know how sometimes you swear there must be a thread for something already, but then you search and there isn’t? And then you put your pants back on and make a new thread? Well I do.
Because, you know, new trailer you guys.

ParticipantThey gave the people of Japan a special fancy trailer with extra footage and some weird symbols.

KeymasterYeah, Rob and I were talking about this earlier. The Japanese do get a better look… this movie needs to come out tomorrow.

ParticipantCumberbatch is pretty cool. I watched the second series/season of Sherlock earlier this year and the dude is really fun to watch. Great voice for a villain. I still have to go back and watch the first season/series of Sherlock. They’re only 3 episodes each (of 80 minutes or something) so I don’t know why I haven’t yet.
I wonder how long until the “PWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” thing goes out of fashion for movie trailers.
Who was first to use that? Inception?

ParticipantI believe so. The sound you are describing is the sound of “holyfuckyoureyeswillbleedandyouwillshitdiamondswhenyouseethis” sound.

KeymasterSurprised there isn’t more here on this…
Funny new Audi commercial (related) that I found on the giant network of inter-connected computers

ParticipantThat was enjoyable.

ParticipantNice. So the guy who walks in at the end was Khan, right?

ParticipantI saw ST13 (I’m not calling it Into Darkness – it’s really not particularly dark) yesterday and liked it about as much as ST09 (I’m not calling it Star Trek). I think it loses a little of that “Wow, these new actors are kind of fun in these old roles” surprise charm ST09 has, but it makes up for it by being better written. It moves fast though so you have to play pretty close attention if you want to catch all the relevant information, especially in regards to the villain’s motivations. Really liked watching Pine and Cumberbatch commit like champions to their roles, especially Pine who’s almost Tom Cruise-like in his level of intensity in several scenes here and impressed me quite a bit with his ability to sell it. It’s going to piss off a ton of Treksters and movie nerds though so I expect the overall online reaction to be mediocre to negative.
Overall to give it a rating I have it at 8/10 (better than IM3, not as good as Avengers). For me it’s about what you’d expect from a successful summer action/comedy blockbuster and this is all I’ll say right now until y’all sumbitches have seen it too.

ParticipantThe wife and I are gonna see it Wednesday night. I’m looking forward to it.
I’m interested to see why it will piss off Trekitians and movie nerds. Quite cryptic, on purpose, I’m sure.

KeymasterI feel like I’m never gonna get to the movies again.
Gotta hurry up and get moved (out of temp housing), paid (out of money), and back to the point of a little time away from the kids (out if me time).
Its like camping in the rain here (not because it’s been rainy, but because you tend to stay indoors), for over a month. —only with more curry.

When I say it’s like what you want from a successful summer blockbuster I more or less mean there are always holes you could pick if you wanted, but it you’re riding with the film because it’s mostly right, you let that stuff go. Like, there’s dumb shit in both Avengers and IM3, but for some reason they stand out more in IM3 because there’s less other stuff that’s going right than in Avengers. So if you’re predisposed to hate the new Trek because you’re a Trek nerd you’ll see those moments as massive holes, whereas if you’re more neutral there’s a good chance you’ll let them fly because the cast are so fun to watch and there are some really nicely done action scenes.

ParticipantI got spoiled….and it went from a ‘must see on the big screen movie’ to a ‘meh…I’ll wait for the DVD….and maybe a price reduction in the DVD before buying’
I’m sure I’ll love it…but it’s not Star Wars. I can wait

ParticipantIt’s really a lot of fun. Really entertaining, so unless you’re allergic to the theater, you should see it. Like the wind.

ParticipantChris pine was ugly this time. Not enough love scenes on Earth. Too many special effects (more than 5 makes my ears bleed). I am scared of space
