ParticipantIt really is. $65 is a steal.

Participantlooking forward to seeing Alien³ again after watching all that stuff about how they treated Fincher. i had no idea that part 3 was the train wreck that wasn’t by a hair’s breadth.

ParticipantLike I said, if you can watch it with those things in mind, it’s really good. I really enjoy the feel of the movie, and I think the cinematography is genius.

Participanti can understand people having a mixed reaction to part 3 after the initial release but it really was a fresh take on the franchise. i think it was a subconscious rejection of the new color palette.
it was a fine film debut for fincher. and what a fantastic trio of director’s for the first 3 films. i have to admit i have no idea what the filmography is for the director of the fourth film.

ParticipantJean-Pierre Jeunet’s films are quite well regarded but the only one I’ve seen is Amelie, which I love.

i could kick myself for still not having gotten around to watching that.
just looked him up on imdb. he directed city of lost children and delicatessen so i’m actually a fan and didn’t know it.

ParticipantI’m a damn fool for not having watched either of them yet. When you’re done kicking yourself you better swing a leg at me too.

Participantjust checked netflix. amelie is available for streaming. added to my queue. i’m so glad they added a streaming-only plan because i never used the dvd option.
of course it will have to wait until i finish the first half of full metal jacket again for the millionth time. i wonder if anyone ever watches the whole movie more than once?

Participantgetting back to rob’s first post about his sound system and blu-ray purchases.
basically i want to discuss blu-rays that have a >48kHz sample rate for their audio.
i know a lot of music blu-rays have a sample rate greater than 48kHz so i’m not going to include those.
baraka runs at 96kHz (as well as the creators’ previous outing of chronos) but the only conventional narrative movie i have that runs at 96kHz is the professional.
the point of all this is to get to the real movie i want to discuss: akira. if you haven’t heard the blu-ray i hightly recommend it. the 192kHz audio sounds phenomenal. the video runs at just under 20mbps but the audio bandwidth is just over 14mbps (with peaks at 18). it’s an amazing aural treat.
