listening to the most recent show, i have to say i was surprised to hear many of the movies that bryan had in his collection. the one that stood out the most was precious. i have to admit i’ve avoided it because i just knew a movie like this had to be preachy and “oprah-fied” but bryan seemed to give the impression that it wasn’t like this at all.

so the movie is worth at least watching once?

I watched it because I expected to be able to tolerate the movie everyone was talking about. It’s not quite what you’d expect, while delivering exactly what you expect. It’s dark dude, and I think that’s what allowed me to stick with it. For all of the points I expected to annoy me, I was really happy about how they really made this just every day enough, and just fucked up enough to keep me into it. But really, the big payoff for me is that I don’t like M’onique (or wherever she’s putting that stupid punctuation in there)… and her character played right into my core hatred for the woman, and left me pretty damn impressed with what she did.

It’s whatchable for sure. You’ll get enough of what you expect to get from it to satisfy you need to not be on the bandwagon, and enough of real movie magic (belief in the characters and the story) that you can’t help but be at least a little impressed and respectful of it.

Watch it.
