I know you asked for a discussion of the points you bring up but I have nothing to add because I’m in 100.002% agreement with all of them. It’s Iron Man 3 all over again. If this keeps up I’ll quit going to movies and just listen to your reviews instead.

It’s a weird one, for sure. I will say that I liked it better the second time, and didn’t have quite the same problem with Zod that I did the first time, but it’s still strange enough that I have a hard time trying to figure out if I really do like it or not.
That’s the case with 300 for me too, and for what I’ve seen of Watchmen (still haven’t watched the whole thing). Whatever flaws he may have there’s always the fact that he doesn’t make films the way anyone else makes them. Even when he reigns in his trademark visual quirks like he did for this movie you can be almost sure you’re not going to get something with a cookie-cutter vibe.

He’s definitely got a pretty awesome visual style. I just wish more thought was given to character in general, and then try to minimize the rah-rah moments, especially the lowest-common denominator ones.
