    Skyline

i felt this was an okay movie. it had a feel that was more akin to a zombie movie than an alien invasion movie, though.

i loved the “moth to a flame” idea for the alien subversion of the human race. but for the life of me i can’t remember where i first heard this idea. seems like i heard a comedian say something similar one time.

the ending was a total cop-out. i can’t say it was “unbelievable” because it was an alien invasion movie. but it really had an air about it similar to when you wait until the last minute to do a lengthy essay and by the end you are so glad you are almost done that you just start throwing down any and all words that pop into your head and hope that something sticks and makes sense in context except that nothing does and you end up with a big red question mark beside your last paragraph with a little note saying “you were doing pretty good right up until the end here.” <---run on sentence!

creature design was lifted straight from the michael bay transformers design team. either that or it was the same team and they have been sapped of all other creative avenues.

    Battle: Los Angeles

this movie is any first- or third-person shooter you’ve ever played. it hits all the high marks of a video game complete with a couple of “‘Merica, Fuck Yea!” moments.

creatures and vehicles weren’t as clean, sterile and other-worldly as skyline. they actually felt more familiar than alien. they could easily have been bio-mechanical creatures from a future Earth instead of an invasion force from outer space.

overall i enjoyed it because it was basically a video game movie.

    Alien vs. Ninja

yeah, that’s right. Alien vs. Ninja! now streaming on netflix.

    low budget. very enjoyable.

fight choreography is actually pretty good. and there’s some sexual innuendo with the buxom girl ninja that’s hilarious.

    some really nice gore effects.

alien ‘creature’ is either bad cg or guy in rubber suit (i.e. awesome!).

plus it has ninjas (also awesome!) fighting aliens (double awesome!).

My essence still senses Bucho's women.

I thought Skyline was crap. I thought at the end it seemed like they completely changed the type of movie they were going for. For most of the movie it was a crap movie, then right at the end it seemed like they said, “Hey! Let’s be a comic book movie!”

Battle: Los Angeles though, was just a good straight-forward action movie. I really enjoyed it.
