ParticipantNot everyone loves Joaquin Phoenix, especially after his stunt movie with Casey Affleck, but at least nobody can say he’s in this for the money or peer recognition.
“I think it’s bullshit. I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t believe in it. It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst-tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other . . . It’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.”

Then I stumbled across Dustin Hoffman saying something similar, except he was at the Oscars. On the stage. Giving his speech for winning an Oscar.

ParticipantThen as I continued to stumble I fell over this vid of Steven “My Shark’s Name Is Bruce” Spielberg watching the announcement of the nominations.
I don’t even know if this thread has any point, but these things are entertaining to me.

ParticipantSpielberg’s been screwed many times in this way, but I think Dustin Hoffman is right — more than anything, it boosts your name so they can bill you as “Academy Award Winner”.
I mean, listen to those others that were listed as Best Picture nominees right there. When’s the last time you watched any of those? Who was scrambling to get those on Blu-Ray? I’m not discounting them, not at all, it’s just that to me, the best movies are the ones that are watched over and over by people throughout the years. At such a young age, it’s impossible to realize that what really matters is if your film stands up to the test of time. I think he realizes that now.

ParticipantThis is what the Oscars are really about for me. To see it really matter to an artist.

ParticipantI’m making this my Awards Season Catch-All thread just because.
And since I don’t care who wins or loses all my posts will be about speeches and hosts and dresses.
For instance; I have crushes on both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler so should I watch the Golden Globes pants-on or pants-off?

ParticipantIt is summertime here, so that was what I was leaning towards. That and the rampant masturbation obviously.
I just hope there aren’t any sudden cutaways to Sacha Baron Cohen.

ParticipantThey were pretty good hosts I thought. Not every joke hit but they’re so damn charming and easy to look at I sailed over the rough patches pretty easily. Thought Anne Hathaway’s speech started out horrible but got pretty nice with her tribute to Sally Field. Christoph Waltz can sometime veer into obsequiousness toward QT but he kept it classy this time and QT’s speech itself was fun. The funniest bit I remember was Will Ferrel and Kristen Wiig, although it went a little too long. And then was saved by cutting away to Tommy Lee JOnes looking completely stone-faced.
Jennifer Lawrence’s speech was excellent and as a bonus here she is on a new Funny Or Die. I know you hate Zach Galifianakis Captain, so you probably shouldn’t watch this. But I know you love J-Law Robby, so you should.

ParticipantPart 2 doesn’t really take off until Bradley Cooper turns up, but when he does … hooooo boy.

ParticipantI didn’t see all of it but I thought DDL’s speech was one of the best ever and Adele charms the shit out of me.

KeymasterMy DVR cut off at the scheduled time, so I missed the last 4 or 5 awards and had to look them up like a scoundrel. Adele made my DVR super fast forward right through her performance that I swear I really cared about, but that’s only because I didn’t. At all.
