ParticipantIs this opposite day Captain? Cause my imagination can stretch quite a bit. I had to quit it when it got halfway through the chorus.

KeymasterI meant the quality of work… not that the songs sound bizarre and awful. Most YouTube mashups suck elephant meat stick, I’m just saying this one was not terrible. It shouldn’t have worked together as well as it did.

ParticipantWhy the Nirvana hate? I loved them. Still do. :p
I’ve actually seen this before, and it gave me the willies then…

hate nirvana for the same reason i hate pearl jam. back in high school the overexposure drove me crazy. never been able to get over it.

ParticipantMaybe it’s my old too-much-loud-rock/builder’s ears being all fucked up but this seemed like one of the worse mash-ups I’ve heard. They don’t seem like they’re in the same key or something.
But then I haven’t listened to YouTube mashups before, only the ones they play on the radio, which I guess are necessarily the most well done ones, so if this is a good example of YouTube mashups I dread to hear the others.

BTW, the doc says that my left side separation scars aren’t even visible now… how’s your right side doing?

ParticipantI agree this isn’t terrible (and the overrating of Nirvana and Pearl Jam….in college I couldn’t run fast enough to get away from that “even Flow” song. I did like Jeremy the first nine thousand times I heard it though)
I think what bothers me about this is that this whole overmixing trend on Youtube has taken a once interesting idea and beaten it to fucking death with the mediocrity of the masses…..and I’m off topic.
What THE FUCK is the deal with this Rick Astley gay fucking ass worship. Did this guy send these people fucking money or something? This is the weird devil baby of the “Comeback”…I swear on my testicles I do NOT get it. Granted sometimes I get stupid shit other people seem to avoid (Jackass level humor) and I ain’t never been one for the witty and smart elite humor of some offerings (anything with Steve Martin after 1990, Janene Garofalo or whatever the fuck her name was) but I consider myself, indeed all of us as qualified to understand a diverse supply of comedy, satire, farce, and other ones I don’t know the difference between.
But this RickRoll thing? You remember that toy as a kid where you turn the handle and the monkey (or lemur, Bucho) would jump out the top? Some kids laughed at that thing but I thought it a black hole of pure, sudden, startling evil. And that seems to be the “punchline” of this Rick-Recurrence.
If I ever see that guy I’m gonna jump out and scare the crap out of him and when he screams in fright I’ll say “Hey, that voice really doesn’t sound like it could come from you”. “I get that a lot” he’ll say and then I’ll kill him with a trident.

ParticipantThe funniness of a lot of virals or memes or whateverthefucks passes me by too. It’s not that I can’t see why a lot of people would enjoy them, I just ain’t that kind of people.

KeymasterIt’s not a comeback. The reason it’s trend is because it sucked. The original joy of the Rick Roll was, “getting” people by making them listen to/watch that stupid ass song. You’d get it though if someone in a forum had this thing for linking to “tub girl” during posts, posing as a link to something useful, just to fuck with people… right? This is the public friendly version of that. You are fucking with people by dumping that shit on them.
I never really got into doing it, and didn’t encounter it too much before it became note-worthy among the sheep. But I get it at least. I still think it would be fun to threaten to stab in the balls with a buick to get him to sing out loud. I still don’t believe it’s even his voice.

ParticipantAll I know is when he came out of the closet the opening to Rick Astley’s “never gonna give you up” started playing and I starting running.
