So about that. New Line Cinema is interested in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel Hobbit or doing a prequel (how Star Wars-ish) but they told Jackson that his services are not needed.
One of the main reasons (from what I’ve been able to uncover with my super secret mind reading abilities) is that there is a pending lawsuit between Peter Jackson and co. and New Line, apparently for unpaid moneys from Fellowship. This in effect has caused the apparent rift between the two factions, so obviously, war is imminent.
Well… Pete’s magic was 50% of what made the LoTR films great… so um… I guess The Hobbit will be 50% suckier… which is a shame… because I can honestly say I enjoyed it more than the fellowship and two towers books…
Yeah, that lawsuit’s been going on for at least 12 months I think. PJ’s said New Line stiffed him at some point and as much as I’d love to see him bring The Hobbit to life I don’t want to hear that he’s bent over to do it. The relationship seems like it’s beyond saving now. There probably are other directors who could make it pretty awesome, as long as good writers are on board, but it also could end up flat like Narnia (directed by another Kiwi, d’oh) if the wrong people are involved.
