Version3
KeymasterOkay so for work I’ve got this video feed that I need to work on. Basically, I need a 720p stream at high frame rate that really works. I’ve got all of the setup worked out, the trouble we have is upstream bandwidth sucks at work.
I’d like your help. I’m about to do a live stream on the SOS UStream channel. It’s just going to be boring video of my desk, but the audio will be an unreleased iRiver show that you can get a sneak listen to.
I may drop on and offline a little while I make tweaks and adjustments. I will make notes on what’s going on here and in the upstream social stream when this happens. I CAN’T see the chatroom, it’s blocked here at work. Helpful, right?
I’m looking for your feedback on framerate, video quality and most of all, uptime dependability. Your feedback is helpful.
Going live at approx 10:15am CST. I expect I’ll stream for an hour or two to really get the feel for it.

KeymasterI should add that you can do this on the iPhone/iPad app as well. Just search for “switchedon” or “switched on show” and you should be able to find the channel.

KeymasterI just updated the original post because I forgot that the chatroom is blocked, so I can’t actually see anything going on there. So if you have feedback, you can either use the “social stream” function for UStream feedback, or just post here on this thread (preferred).

KeymasterI managed to stream for a while from the iPhone and it worked great. But it looks like the iPad died (on WiFi) after just a minute or two in. I’m also pulling two streams on the network, so it’s hard to rate the “view” quality here. It’s really the “upstream” I’m testing on the network.

ParticipantVideo looks great but the audio is very low and currently choppy.

KeymasterHow choppy? The source audio is pretty low, it probably doesn’t make the best test audio.

KeymasterYeah, I’m hearing it on my end. Going to stop stream, change audio encoding settings and see what we get.

ParticipantThe talking is fine but there is like a constant delay noise that is repeating every half second or so. Kinda hard to describe.
Like a click maybe.November 17, 2011 at 4:38 pm #30845Version3
KeymasterYou may have to reload anytime I drop offline and come back like that.
I’ve adjusted the audio only, dropped the bit rate just a tad, and went to mono.

ParticipantAfter you just dropped and came back it seems to have disappeared.

KeymasterIt’s funny, my computer has a whole ton of instances of this video playing, all at slightly different times.

KeymasterOkay, a note about audio… this is not a good example of what will be on the stream I’m testing for… I just wanted to have something appealing to you guys for helping me out. What you are hearing is the product of an iRiver recording that hasn’t been put through post, and then all of the audio is routed through SoundFlower before getting encoded and going out.
I’m really impressed by the quality of this webcam I’m using.

Keymasterboth of my iOS devices dropped off of the live feed at the same time, but my web connection stayed up. Newman, what are you watching it on?
November 17, 2011 at 4:58 pm #30861Newman
ParticipantWatching on ustream.tv in Firefox on my work iMac. But was just playing with the iOS app when I mentioned it on the social stream.

KeymasterYou mentioned something being super delayed showing up on your desktop… were you talking about what you could see on your iOS session and Firefox?
