    Hey guys,

So a few years ago, Bryan and I talked car audio shit. I ended up doing other stuff than what we talked about.

I ended up with a Mercedes instead of the Honda I expected, so the difficulty of everything went up a lot. I put in a head unit, did the front and backs in the cab with 6.5″ jbl components with a 400 watt amp.

The first woofers I put in were two 10″ solo barics, 500w each. They were decent, built a good sealed enclosure and had no problem with them.

^bad quality but my phone then was really shit.

So then I decided, this wasn’t enough, so I bought an 18″ from the US, and got it all measured out. Only place I could put it was in the back seat. And that was just big enough. The box is almost too big to fit in the back seat, and if it isn’t properly secured it shakes itself out of place. on a 3000 watt half ohm stable amp, currently at 1ohm and pushing about 2100.

^ I had to install a second board on front of the original hole I took out, 1 because I fucked up the hole, and 2 I wanted an extra bit of hold for this fucking thing. I will be re making the box next year and putting a second board on the front to be able to countersink the woofer in a bit.

This thing is loud. Like shook the sun roof out of place loud. It hasn’t been in since last summer, but I will be putting it in again in 2014, and making the car look good then too. I also installed a custom 240amp alternator in the car, and that was a lot of fun to do. Now I have more power than I could ever need. But I need a new battery now.

The ‘ole 18… slow and low. I always liked them, but you almost have to have a couple of 10s around just to pick up the midbass that the 18 doesn’t do that well. It’s a power capable bitch though, ain’t it? I just wish they made equipment like they did in the old days. It’s not as powerful now, not by a mile. I’d love to get a pair of 10″ Oz audio, and an old Autotek and shake some souls, but life still costs too much money.

BTW Ben, glad you did the alternator and the truck BEFORE rattling around with it all going saying “that’s next!”. The alternator is a super smart move. If you want to do dual batteries on the cheap, go to an RV store, and pickup a battery isolator. This is the charge/use circuit you need to run two batteries, and protect your primary for doing car things.

Yeah, the first thing I did was the alternator swap, it made me remember just how much I don’t know about engines. Luckily there was a lot of space in the engine bay because the battery is in the trunk. I’m thinking about doing two deep cycle batteries (I can get them through my dad’s work for pretty cheap), and I read somewhere about an isolator before, so I will probably do that as well.

I have to stabilize the rear deck where I have the front stage components right now, it came loose on the corners and it now has a rattle. That is the only rattle through the car though. The trunk will shake a bit when it is loud, but that is because I ran out of dampener before I could strip and do the trunk.

And yeah, that FI 18″ is rated for 2500rms but people have put 3000+ to it and it does just fine. I skimped on the amplifier a bit (Lanzar OPTI3201D) but for a budget amp this one had the best reviews. I will be upgrading the amp when I can afford to do it.

Plans for the future:Going to either: (if I get a new car) build a wall in the back seat, to put two of those subs in. I could build a box for the two of them, but there is no way I could get it to fit in through the doors.
or, if I don’t get a new vehicle (this is my daily driver), fix the few little issues and put in new terminal connectors to the boxes, fresh batteries, dampen the rest of the car, make the amp rack look sexy, fix dome lights in rear and trunk, install lights to light up the woofer in the back seat, and put some cool lighting in the trunk.
