ParticipantNeil Blomkamp you guys.
Best sci-fi trailer since Prometheus? Better than Prometheus even?

ParticipantHoly crap, I just found out Blomkamp is only 33. I thought he was a decade older. He’s practically a child.

ParticipantOh, you.
I likea dis. So much I used a Boss Nass reference.
Trailers are an interesting art. Let’s show enough that people get interested enough to see the movie, but not so much that we blow our wad too early. This seems to have enough stuff in the movie that it’ll be okay, but I think that some of it could have been saved. I was already interested in seeing the movie before this trailer, but not everybody’s the same on that. We need something to save this summer in my opinion, and I’m hoping that this or Pacific Rim or something else will make it worthy of other summers.

ParticipantI think it shows too much too. I also think Sharlto Copley’s face is too friendly-lookin’ to portray a mean-ass bad guy. Apart from that I find this one of the most effective sci-fi trailers of recent times.

KeymasterI think this movie just looks typical, and weak. Every part of it looks tired… at best it will be well executed mediocrity. At worst, it will be typical, and you’ll wonder why they didn’t just stick xXx or the Day Walker in there. I remember being slightly intrigued when I say the first trailer, but the one I sat through on MoS Friday just made me wonder why it’s so hard to break into that business.

ParticipantFor some reason, I pictured you doing that, and it made me laugh.

KeymasterHey, it’s just an impression. I’ll give the movie a chance, it’s just what I expect based on what I’ve seen alone.

ParticipantI get that a lot of movies lately are just hollywood action moneygrab bullshit, but sometimes they are thrilling enough to merit the $13 to see them, I really liked Oblivion (but I am a crazy Morgan Freeman fan and will see everything he is in) and it was kind of a cool concept.
I will see this one after a couple weeks if my friends hype it up.

KeymasterThat last trailer they released (I saw it again when I saw The Wolverine) made me feel a little better about it. It’s going to be a weak story in general, but it looks like it may be just enjoyable enough, with real enough people that it won’t be such a focal point. I could be totally wrong about all of it. –But it’s definitely going to look amazing. Even if everything on the Earth is made from repurposed D9 props.

ParticipantEspecially when the D9 props looked like they were already rerererepurposed.
That’s why filmmakers love to shoot in ghettos and favelas – instant exoticism that makes the Mos Eisley cantina look like The Brady Bunch House.
