Version3
KeymasterNot sure how I’m the first one to post about this one… But thoughts?
I’m definitely concerned that I won’t like this one.

ParticipantHonestly? It’s all very meh to me. There’s hope, but I honestly didn’t see anything that made me excited.

ParticipantMeh for me too. Man of Steel was mediocre, not convinced this one will be any less so.

ParticipantLook, I want to like it, I just don’t know if DC/Warner can pull it off. My biggest problem really is just the fact that Batman almost seemed plausible, Nolan did a pretty good job of showing that. Once you start throwing in an Amazon with an invisible jet and an alien all flying around and a dude that can talk to Dolphins and shit, it starts to lose that distant realism and you get into the really comicky stuff. Is that wrong for me to say?

ParticipantBats and Supes do feel like they’re from different universes, which I guess has always been the tension in any of the stories DC has tried to tell where they team up. Bats stories can be told as if he’s a super teched up ninja, kind of in the mould of a Mission Impossible or James Bond type universe, where it’s not like it’s “realistic” but it is somewhat grounded. Once you inject superpowers you’re straight into the realm of fantasy no matter how much you try to tell yourself or your audience it could be sci-fi because aliens.
Marvel’s shown a cinematic knack of combining billionaire ass-kickers with freak beings but it’s much harder to do in film with the dour, po-faced tone DC seems committed to. Sometimes throwing a serious vibe at something outlandish only makes it seem more silly.

ParticipantI actually liked Man of Steel a lot.
As for comic books, I’m a HUGE Batman fan. With Superman I’m much more selective about what I read. And I feel like that’s the reason I liked Man of Steel as much as I did.
There were so many scenes that (although not even close to being panel-for-panel lifts) kept bringing to mind some of my favorite Superman stories: For Tomorrow, Secret Origin and the Earth One series (particularly Vol. 3).
I’m staying away from all Dawn of Justice material. I’m not excited about Ben playing Batman. I don’t need to go in excited because I’m going to see it no matter what. Ergo, why risk being let down before I even walk into the show, right?

ParticipantYeah, don’t get me wrong, I really want to like this but so far, everything I’ve seen has left me cold. And I think I was one of the few people who immediately thought that Batfleck could pull it off.

ParticipantI still think Batfleck could pull it off, I just don’t think Snyder can.

ParticipantThis new one’s better. Still finding it hard to get excited for a Snyder movie though.

ParticipantI agree. It’s just not doing it for me. I really want to be excited for it, but something just seems off. I don’t want to judge it before I see it, but Star Wars has done everything so well that it’s hard to get excited for this.

ParticipantAnyone seen this yet? The reviews and my mistrust of Snyder have me afraid to.

KeymasterI saw it within the first few microseconds that it was possible for the public to view it. I went in with the lowest of expectations. I enjoyed watching it, and feel like some reviewers are too hard on the movie, but it’s still not good. The more I process it the less I like it.
