ParticipantI didn’t see the Proposal but I’m not against it. I like Bullock and Reynolds, it’s just not the sort of film I hunt out and my girlfriend doesn’t seem to either.
I’m looking forward to Inception and Robin Hood about equally I reckon, at about a 70% level of anticipation. If they’re anything more than solid I’ll be pleasantly surprised but I seem to have a little less faith in both of these guys lately than you gentlemen. I think Robin Hood looks like it’ll have some massive epicness, Cate Blanchett is brilliant and gorgeous and Russell Crowe is probably the best manly leading man around, but the story itself feels tired to me. I have no curiosity about Robin Hood anymore, so Ridley will have to have found something very special in it. And Inception has one of the best casts going right now but I find I still don’t love Leo enough to get excited about him in this role and the idea of entering peoples’ dreams excites me even less than the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men for the tenth time.
On the plus side both of these directors make good looking films, so even if the stories don’t rock the socks off my cocks the imagery is bound to.

ParticipantI’d say A Good Year has more of a feel-good type feel than a straight-up romcom. Probably why the movie never found an audience.

this just made me want to scream [talking about shooting the new alien in 3d]:
Quote:I always heard that in 3D you want as much light on a situation as possible.Scott: That’s the downside.
Isn’t Alien almost the antithesis of that because the movies have always been about shadow and darkness and about hiding things.
Scott: That’s what Jim said. He said, “The problem is you’re going to have to grade it later. You’re gonna have to grit your teeth and light it, not the way you like it. And then later, you’re going to have to re-grade it.” Re-paint it. So you’re literally re-painting. So, in fact, Avatar, when you think about it, is almost a completely animated movie. It’s an animated movie.
but interviews like these highlight why i scott so much as a film maker.
Quote:It’s interesting to hear you talk about the difference between enjoying a film in the theater versus enjoying it at home. With a film like Kingdom of Heaven, in which the two versions are extraordinarily different-Scott: Forty minutes. That was unfair. That was really my fault. It was a really stupid cut.

ParticipantHaha, yeah Lark, the great thing about Ridley Scott is he’s always interested in trying new visual techiniques. Unless as an audience member you don’t enjoy 3D, in which case it’s not such a great thing about Ridley.

Yeah, the film isn’t getting rave reviews so far but at least this fascinating conversation came out of it.

ParticipantNew 60 second spot with some different stuff from the trailer. As much as I’m trying not to get too hyped for this movie I have to admit this clip gives me shivers of awesomeness.

ParticipantWowee zowee, this is getting some sweeeet reviews. Devin Faraci, who hasn’t been kind to Nolan in the past, gave it 10/10. Beaks big-upped it too. How the fuck is a gentleman supposed to keep his expectations down now?

ParticipantI am now uncontrollably excited about this movie. Thanks, Bucho.
It doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes I see a trailer and think to myself, “I already love this movie.” Sometimes I’m right, and sometimes I’m wrong. I think I was right to think that about this one. It just seems to hit all my notes just perfect.
I watched Dark City again today, and there’s another movie that’s just about pitch perfect. Sure, the CG isn’t as impressive by today’s standards, but it has so much going for it story-wise that it’s just really awesome. I watched it with Roger Ebert’s commentary for the first time, and if you want to watch a movie that’s almost like going to film school, that one’s the one to watch. I learned so much today about composition and little acting notes that it was really awesome to watch.
I say that because Inception already feels like it will be one of those movies that will be studied for years to come, much like Dark City, Blade Runner, 2001, Star Wars, and all the other classic genre-specific type movies. I’m just so damn excited.

Dude, was it the dark city blu-ray? Cuz I hadn’t watched it in years until that came out and it is amazing. Plus I’m a huge Jennifer Connelly fan and her singing “sway with me” tingles my nethers fiercely.

KeymasterI don’t get anyone being a huge Jennifer Connelly fan… I’ve wanted to stab her in the ovaries since Labyrinth. I don’t see her as a top flight actress, but some things about her in that movie have made me hate her for all eternity.

ParticipantYou sure know how to hold a grudge… :p
Yes, Lark – there’s actually TWO Roger Ebert commentaries on it. One for the regular cut, and one for the director’s.
